Maybe Venus and Serena ARE that much better

"Winning isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing." - Vince Lombardi

Keeping that in mind ...

Are V&S invincible? No not hardly.

Good enough to win 9 times out of 10 if they're playing someone they aren't related to?

Well, take Lindsay off the table and we'll talk.

Good enough to win 7 times out of 10 if they're playing someone they aren't related to?

Sure.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

7 out of ten? More like at least 8 out of 10... their win lost records have been that good for the past 2 years, and this year, it is ever better.

VENUS
Serena
Lindsay Jelena Maria

Mary : Monica : Svetlana : Sania : Jennifer : Amelie
Roddick : Grosjean : David : Djokovic

The losing player learns more than the winning player. With each loss, a smart losing player learns what's effective and ineffective. The rest of the top ten is talented and most are pretty bright. So they'll learn. Whereas Venus doesn't know much more about beating Jenn than the first time they played. So by the time they play the matches 6-10, I expect Venus and Serena would lose a bit more.

Competition itself levels the playing field. (Given talent within orders of magnitude, anyway.)
