Question Of the Top 10, Who Are the Best Volleyers?

I'm very amazed by the top women's tennis players, because players #10-30 can volley better than virtually all of the elite few. I guess that's more proof that the top players only need speed and power but no technical skill whatsoever, not to name names. Anyway, who are the top 10 volleyers in the...top 10?

My list:

1) Martina Hingis
By the book, perfect volleys, amazing shotmaking when put to the test.
2) Justine Henin
Her volleys are excellent, she can really mix her game up.
3) Kim Clijsters
Such great athleticism, instinct, and reflex around the net, a shame she isn't up there more often.
4) Daniela Hantuchova
( I think she is ranked #11, but Sandrine is now retired so we don't count her) Very nice volleys, her reach helps her for sure.
5) Amelie Mauresmo
Great form, but you never know what she will show you on a certain day, so a little to inconsistent to be ranked higher.
6) Jennifer Capriati
Nice punching volleys, very powerful, but is a horrible doubles player for some reason.
7) Lindsay Davenport
Decent volleys, nice touch, but since she never shows it, it is hard to put her up higher.
8) Venus Williams
Terrible volleys, only knows how to punish loopy high shots, a decent drop volley saves her from the bottom of the list.
9) Serena Williams
See above, wins all her points at net by crushing loopers, but when her volleys are tested, she is a fish out of water.
10) Monica Seles
Well it's Monica, nothing new here.

Thoughts?

1. Martina- the best volleys in the business!! Great touch!!

2. Justine- Great feel at net and good anticipation. That great pickup/drop volley during the Berlin Final tells all.

3. Daniela- Great doubles player, and all around great volleys.

4. Serena- Definitlry showed her ability to volley during Wimbly Doubles. Awesome volleys.

5. Lindsay- Great hands. Great doubles player.

6. Kim- all around nice volleyer, but not as good as the above.

7. Venus- a little inconsistent but most of the time, nice swinging, if not drop volleys.

8. Amelie- inconsistent, even though she volleyed incredibly during her match vs Jenn at Wimby. Most of the time though, shes not that good.

9. Jenn- Good volleys sometimes, but the abouve players a definitley better.

10. Monica- God just simply didnt make her a volleyer.

azarenka - pavlyuchenkova - li - jankovic
garcia - bencic - paszek - rus - kanepi - kuznetsova - stephens
bouchard - karatantcheva - larcher de brito - voegele - lim - mladenovic

mary pierce - forever #1
vaidisova - kournikova - golovin - henin
the boys - federer - gasquet - del potro - haase - nishikori

Monica has a good volley. She just isn't comfortable at net but technically her volley is very good. Even against Henin at Wimbledon, she attacked and made a lot of volley winners.

yes monica has pretty good volleys. I think Capriati's are not too good and sometimes Justine volleys a lot but they are often very short and have pretty poor placement. Venus and Serena are better volleyers than you all make it sound too. Kim Clijsters does not hit good volleys off of low shots IMO. But she can hit good groundstrokes off of those shots sometimes. Hingis of course seems to be able to hit the lines with many of her volleys although they are often topspin volleys that are vulnerable to passing shots. However I have seen her hit some great slice volleys and she can scoop up mid court balls and place them anywhere with scary angles!

Just pointing out Jen has one of the best one handed backhand volley in the top 10. very natural.

and where they produce desolation, they call it peace

Why is it that whenever there is a "out of the top 10...." thread, everyone includes hantuchova?

last time I looked, she wasn't in the top 10.....but everyone seems to include her and discard Dokic.

Hingis and Henin are the best volleyers. Davenport, the Williams sisters, Capriati, Mauresmo, Hantuchova and Clijsters all volley very well. Seles and Dokic however are attached to their baselines like glue, esp. Seles.
