Should the top juniors, quit junior tournies and concentrate on senior?

I was just thinking about this and had this idea that Pavlyuchenkova was no1 for some time and she could really make that next step, i know that she still is very young, that she still looses in the juniors and that she is not that successful in seniors, but i can't help but feel that she should rather play a lot of futures (rather than getting all these je and wc). At first it would probably be difficult, especially if she lost a lot and lost the confidence, but the experiance would be greater. I also can't help but feel that she's one of these juniors that won't make it big time in seniors ...

There is also the case of the other top5 players. I have to say that this top5 isn't a very strong one, by which i mean that when they go on court they don't always getting far enough according to their ranking.

A separate case is U. Radwanska, who has been great the last 2 gs, but after her massive fall in senior rankings i just wonder if she'll want to leave it so quickly and try to catch up on her sister. (which is getting more and more difficult, because now Aga can play any tournament and while i think that she will keep on playing the lower tiers i think she should rather go for the higher ones if she wants to be on the very top). She also has proven that she can play at the top 200 level, but her mentality and these lapses are just in the way.

Re: Should the top juniors, quit junior tournies and concentrate on senior?

pavlyuchenkova should have left juniors already-she seems to want to win all the junior slams when really they mean nothing in terms of your overall career. who really cares that srebotnik, dushevina etc won junior slams?
she seems to be getting worse-i know shes still young but shes getting beat by nobodys on the junior tour never mind the singles. her match in moscow against vaidisova was impressive but her match at wimby against hantuchova this year was horrible and clearly she was unable to think on court

maybe she will be like k.bondarenko and take a while to mature but i feel she may just lose confidence by losing to players who are ultimately not as good as her

Nastya P. has a terrible schedule.

She never can play herself into form and she wasted her JE tournaments on clay ITFs which isn't her best surface.

More often than not, it is a curse to win the Junior Slams. If you look back at the last couple of years, the runner up has gone on to have a better career. Look at where Tamira is compared to Nastya

VENUS. ANA, TAY TAY. NICOLE. LAURA. KONJUH. MADISON

SERENA. MUGU. VIKA. PETKO. CARO. TIMEA. SVETA. HEATHER. KAIA. TAMIRA. FLAVIA. GEORGI. COCO. LUCIE, SLOANE. PENG. SORANA. ALICIA. JAEDA. CICI. ANETT. DANKA. DONNA. FRANCOISE.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. SHENAY. DINARA. GISELA. SPREM.

Krajicek compared to Flipkens (2003 uso juniors - Flipper won) too (although Flipper is always injured )...but on the other hand, Krajicek compared to Kirkland (2004 - Krajicek won) Kirkland is MUCH worse off. So I don't think it's a good indicator really.

Nastya might just need to take her time to start to work her way up the senior rankings.

I think Alizé's transition to the senior tour is a perfect example of how it should be done, she started off playing smaller ITF tournaments last year and now she has just built her way up until RG this year where she won and that was the last Juniour tournament she played.

BARTOLI, Marion ♠ CORNET, Alizé ♣ MLADENOVIC, Kristina ♥ GARCIA, Caroline

Most national federations (and sometime the ITF) pay for all expenses when a player play the junior events. That's why some players continue to play junior even if they achieved some succes already. When they start playing pro events, they're on their own.

I think so. Because the best juniors most often than not, would on and have mediocre careers in the WTA.

Yes. Juniors dont mean anything and usually the ones who stay in juniors the longest have worse careers than those who leave juniors early.

I dont actually think that Nastya P will make much of an impression on the main tour. She might get to top 100 but won't be a top player. She doesnt have a big enough game and yet she is unstable.

That tends to be the best way to do it - work your way up into the WTA tour, then you can get used to the differing levels of tennis. With the AER, it makes it harder to get into the top 100 at such a young age anymore - yes, it's possible for a few players coming out of juniors, but most will slowly work their way up. Now alot of the juniors from 88/89/90 are starting to make their way up the rankings (Szavay/Azarenka/Cornet/Wozniacki etc)...
