Justine's overhead..

has to be one of the best ever. I've seen her hit this shot (from the baseline)

countless times for clean winners. For those of you who play, you know difficult this is,

especially in the wind. It's also downright intimidating for the opponent.

There's a bit of Justine in all of us.

"The great thing about Henin and Federer is that each of them is a beautiful player and a superior competitor, so the divide is effectively bridged. Have there ever been a pair of No. 1 players who so fully represent the abundantly gifted as well as the fully-ripened competitor?"

Re: Justine's overhead..

The Justine "love-in" continues ...

I've never seen her "shank" this shot, or even miss the court. Exhibition stuff - absolutely amazing.

Re: Justine's overhead..

That was a stunning overhead off an excellent defensive shot from Venus that fell almost on the baseline!!

I play tennis and always struggle with the overhead . I really appreciate it when the pros slam overhead winners like Henin's yesterday. They make it look so easy!

I also loved the delicate half-volley winner, I wish she played it against someone else ! A lot of wonderful points all around from both girls.

Re: Justine's overhead..

The slow-mo replay showed some amazing footwork and knee flexing preceding this shot.

Re: Justine's overhead..

Try to look at the match of Martina in her comeback Australian game, I think it was against Benesova, that overhead from the baseline to the other baseline is unthinkable.

It is absolutely amazing, and so incredibly difficult because you really can't practice it well, like it happens in match play. In practice, a player normally knows when they're going to practice this shot, and it's in their head that they're going to work on it even before they approach the net, but in match play, the unexpected comes into play (especially for a shorter player like Henin), and she has the wherewithall to get back to a good lob, adjust her footwork to get under the ball, and then basically serve with the whole court to hit into, and against a rangy player with Venus' wingspan that's extremely difficult. Can't be practiced, or at least if it can- I'd like to know how Carlos did it!

There is nothing more beautiful than Evonne Goolagong in full flight moving across a tennis court.
