The Big Four?

I was just wondering does everyone see that the top four players thar are most feared and thus should have the top four rankings in the world are Justine, Maria, Serena, and Venus. It seems like they have dominated the Grand Slams and it seems like a matter of time before they get the toup four rankings. Thanks for responses

Re: The Big Four?

It's hard to say who's the top 4 right now.... at this moment there are 6 players on tour which I consider are at the top....

Those who has won a GS - Serena (8), Venus (6), Justine (6), Maria (2)
Those who haven't won a GS - Ana, Jelena

The others are not even close.

Australian Open 2010 Final Result:-
Lost to Serena Williams 4-6, 6-3, 2-6 (Great job, girl! Now prepare for FO!)

Re: The Big Four?

Itís a tough question given the level of depth among top players today. Firstly, the top two are obviously Henin and Sharapova, itís hard to argue against that right now.

Iím going to boldly ignore the two top Serbís and Williamsí! There is only Kuznetsova that comes to mind at top 3. Then thereís Russians Petrova and Dementieva followed by youngsters Chakvetadze and Safina who are all fearsome opponents.

Personally hereís what I thinkÖ

Henin
Sharapova
Kuznetsova
S.Williams
Jankovic
V.Williams
Ivanovic
Petrova

Re: The Big Four?

The big four are the 4 top ranked players, that's what the ranking is for.

Merci Justine!

Agnieszka Radwanska - Beautifull style, tons of talent and variety, and the cutest smile on tour.

In best-form I agree with Henin,Williams x2,Sharapova as big four.

Mauresmo,Ivanovic,Jankovic,Chakvetadze after them.

Re: The Big Four?

Why 4? The days of Henin, Clijsters, Serena and Venus are GONE. We're in a new Era.

Why i think of the big players, i think of players who put fear into their opponents. Justine does that, Serena does that (though she is losing it a bit not playing much / being in shape - but the AO was a good step), Venus lost it (losing to anyone) but she is working on getting it back. Ivanovic is building it fast - she hits the ball harder than anyone. Jankovic is almost there, but she's a mental doubt.

To this list i'd add Kuznetsova. She is one of the most complete players, with a dangerous game. If she can get her head together - watch her to be right up there.

Those are the players who are thought of as the best and are almost certainly the players you would least want to be drawn against. But the rankings are fine as they are. Players earn their rankings with their results the last 12 months. And Venus and Serena need to do the same and earn their rankings. They should not just be put in the top 4 based on their reputation and winning a couple of tournaments this year including a slam but little else.

With the lopsided draws at the USO and RG - this does raise the question though of whether the seedings at the slams should be based on the rankings. There's a strong case that the big four should have been the top four seeds at this year's USO.

Re: The Big Four?

It used to be Williamses and Belgians. Since Kim is gone I guess Maria has just replaced her.
