Help needed: footfaults
I was supporting my friend for a small tennis league final when I spotted their opponents footfaulting. The matches were to be self-umpired. I told my friend and his team mates about that but they didn't take any action.
The footfaults were ridiculous. This guy starts off with his leg barely touching the line and when he tosses the ball up, he takes one huge step INTO the court. Sure, the serves were fast but it can't be any obvious that he's footfaulting, both first AND second serves. I guess for this guy, it was ok as he was handily defeated even though he had an obvious advantage with all the foot faults.
The other player, the supposed star player, also footfaulted. Sure, he has a complete game; good groundstrokes, good volleys. But those can't deny the fact that he's footfaulting on almost all of his serves. He starts with his leg about 15 cm off the baseline. However, he takes a step forward and obviously his foot was touching the line.
It's really unfair to my friend's team who played fair and square to lose to these kind of players. I told my friend that he should probably sound it out to them but they didn't. I even shouted out loud as a clear hint on their foot faults. But they still continued. I don't think they are so silly to not know the rules of tennis on footfaulting. Given the situation, what should be done? I, as a spectator can't do much and it's really frustrating to see them blatantly breaking the simple rule.
