After walking aimlessly in 90 degree heat for an hour and a half, we began to walk back to Grand Stand. By this point I had asked four people if they had seen any sight of Serena. Everyone said no.
One guy offered me a hundred dollars if I could find her practice session for him.
We were walking back to the front to get our pictures taken when we saw Richard idly strolling through the crowded park. We decided to follow him, believing that he would lead us to our destitnation.
it was worth it though, because low and behold, on Grand Stand, in some hot pants and a long-sleeved Nike shirt, was Serena Williams!!
Richard got a little curious because he had recognized us from the park. He kept giving us glances and even came over to ask "How ya'll folks doin'?"
We told him that we were good. After the initial buzz wore off, Serena's practice began to bore me. She is soooo consistent. She did this one drill where she just kept rallying; it lasted for about 5 minutes until Serena hit a forehand into the net when Witt appraoched.
It wasn't until they started playing points that it got exciting. (Oh and by the way her backhand is back to where it was before.
) She started grunting loudly and hitting ferocious groundstrokes. The people in the stadium, now half occupied, clapped whenever she hit a winner and cheered her on. Then we went to watch Federer for a bit, were we saw Roddick signing autographs.
We left to go see if we could find Venus, but on the way we caught a glimpse of Sharapova and Micha warming up to play a set. We left, needless to say
and went to the practice courts where we saw Murray, Safin hitting with Stephanek, Moya, Henman, Sofia A., and then on the last court, Venus!!
We went up to the bleachers to watch her hit. She kept missing her dtl forehand wide.
My dissapointment was exacerbated by the sight of Jankovic
, who was practicing on the adjacent court. Later we went to watch Melinda Czink playing her qualiying match against the girl who beat her who I forget.
All in all it was a great day because I got to see Serena and Venus... and the other people.
