It will be a sad day if Petrova ever manages to nab a Grand Slam

Now, first of all, I don't have anything against Petrova. It's just that I was thinking about all the Russian players. Back in 2004, 2005 we had Myskina, Dementieva, Sharapova, Kuznetsova, and Petrova at the top of the game. They were the original Russians that led the way (outside of Kournikova of course), and became mainstays in the top ten.

Well, I've always felt Dementieva so deserved that one Grand Slam. Myskina and Kuznetsova each nabbed one. Sharapova got two. If after everything is said and done, Petrova has a Grand Slam title (who I consider to be much less talented than the rest of the bunch, sorry Petrova fans, I have to say she constructs points well but is not Grand Slam material).

It'll just be strange if Petrova manages to pull one off and out of the Russian 5, Dementieva is known as the forgotten one with no Grand Slam and essentially known in the history books as the one with no serve. Well, anyway sorry if this thread seems pointless but I figured it's at least a more stimulating discussion than those stupid Sharapova draw threads.

Petrova is winning no slam anytime soon, but if she takes her chances she will can be in the final. This draw favours Russians and one of them can find themselves in the final though from that side I see Nicole coming out of that half.Maria has not played Nicole and we will see the barbies duking it out in the fourth rd.

Re: It will be a sad day if Petrova ever manages to nab a Grand Slam

i dont know does dementieva deserve a slam? why couldnt she have learned a topspin 2nd serve it seems that dementieva has been ignorant when it comes to her serve she constantly tries to hit huge first serves when she could have just modified it so its like jankovics and the rest of her game would have ensured a grand slam! as for petrova i hate her attitude so i realy dont want her to win a slam untill she changes that as i think its a disgrace the way she acts sometimes!

btw, you are right in one thing: it is a pointless thread as you couldn't even explain properly why it would be a SAD day.

Since Petrova is not going to win a Grand Slam the day of sadness will not occur and you can sleep well tonight.

Petrova is as talented as any of the other russians, mentally she's fragile, but that seems to be a trait all the Russians have save for Maria

"Hatred is the coward's revenge for being intimidated" - George Bernard Shaw

"And for the best of the teen-agers who followed her, and who occasionally referred to her as over the hill, Graf had a ready answer: against top-ranked Martina Hingis, Graf wound up 7-2. Graf's stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 throttling of Hingis at the French Open final this June was perhaps the most emphatic parting shot the game has ever seen. "

When the Russians were first coming on, Petrova was considered hands-down the most gifted one, and the one most likely to break through first. It didn't happen, but that doesn't take away from her talent. If she ever gets her head together, she might still win a Slam.

While I like Petrova (and her game), it's only Sharapova & Kuznetsova from this original group of Russian pioneers who will leave a LASTING impression on the game.

FILL-IN-THE-DRAW TITLES (16)
Pattaya City 2006 + Paris Indoors 2007 + Acapulco 2007 + Bad Gastein 2008
Stockholm 2008 + Montreal 2010 + AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2011 + Seoul 2011
Brisbane 2012 + Auckland 2012 + Bogota 2012 + Kuala Lumpur 2013
Dubai 2014 + Montreal 2014 + Seoul 2014 + Sofia TOC 2014

She won't, but if she did, why would it be a bad day? Any player who wins a slam deserves it. Petrova is an above average player but I get the feeling she doesn't have the gall to beat grand slam winners

I totally agree with you.

Nadia's best chance was heading in the 2006 French Open after defeating Henin in Berlin on clay, then injuries struck.

Nadia has always had the talent, the power and the game. Its just a matter of time.

I find this thread to be equally as stupid as those dealing with Maria's US Open draw. Further, I also find these kind of threads to be absolutely insulting of all the hard work that tennis players put into their careers. Anyone who manages to win a slam is fully worthy of their success, and those who criticize either feel jealous or threatened.

If Nadia does manage to win a slam soon, I'll make sure to send you a "I hope you feel better soon" PM.

"Child, you really think you're gonna win Roland Garros
with Vera in the draw?"

Petrova's only chance to win a slam is at Roland Garros, and even there she is not going to breakthrough.

I've noticed your posts getting dumb and dumber lately.
Maybe you need to get laid quick .... or maybe improvise.
Harsh perhaps, but so is your thread title.

Dementieva deserving a slam - no she doesn't, she has to earn it. Winning a Slam takes guts, a little luck, hard work and skill. Winning the big prizes is something that has to be learnt - it cannot be taught. I have the utmost respect for all Slam winners. They all win on merit.

Call me hopelessly deluded - I support Petrova because I believe her game is supremly gifted. Equal and more to all the names you have mentioned. The same cannot be said on what goes on between the ears: where big matches are won and lost.
