Re: Look at this result...so strange

Maybe they made a mistake?

Maybe someone fell and cracked their head open and brains were splattered everywhere?

EDIT: I don't think it was a mistake, Lilly Raffa can barely keep a ball in court. Let alone volley or s&v

Re: Look at this result...so strange

Maybe Mediano-Alvarez/Ngo knew that if they won, they would just have to withdraw due to injury anyway. So they probably retired so the other team could take more advantage of that spot? I don't know, just a thought.

But given that most challenger girls are so eager for money and ranking points (of which they would get 1pt for the win and some hundred dollars in prize money), I think they would have preferred to w/o in the QF.

Hmm..well it isn't a mistake, as the tenniseurope.org has the PDF of the tournament and it says the same result as on itftennis.com

Yes... it's realy strange... why Rafa played for Italy and in womans competition?

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Hmm, good point. I didn't think of that. Strange result indeed.

This is never going to happen in pro tennis, and definitely not on ITF level.

Well, I mean you never know. Some players believe in good sportsmanship. And that's a dignified thing to do. But it really comes into focus when you start talking about prize money/ranking points, especially for the ITFs. No big deal, I was just saying maybe that's what happened

Re: Look at this result...so strange

It happens! And don't I know it. When I was a sophomore in high school playing No. 4 singles on my tennis team, I was leading 7-2, 15-30 in a pro-set match (first one to 8 wins). At this moment, I attacked a short ball. My opponent lobbed a decent shot and I scrambled back to retrieve. As luck would have it, this was our archrivals' home court. The courts were awful. They had about 3 feet of court behind the baseline, then it turned to dirt, with a slight ledge between the court and ground. You guessed it! My ankle caught on the ledge and I rolled it -- severely. I would be on crutches for six weeks. They carried me off the court to the hospital, and I had to default the match. It gets worse. My team lost that particular match 4-3. And even worse, it proved to be our only team loss of the season. There was a senior on that team that year who every time he sees me (which happens very rarely) never fails to begin the conversation, "There's the guy who cost me an undefeated season my senior year!). And all of this happened, by the way, 29 years ago!

Re: Look at this result...so strange

i guess one of them had a serious injury! not like most of the gutless wta girls who retire because they broke a nail or dont feel they can win anymore! retiring from a match should be the last resort not because you dont feel you can win or you have a head ache!
