Maria Sharapova: winner of US Open Series

Because both Jelena Jankovic and Patty Schnyder, the only two players who could possibly overtake Maria in the standings, lost their matches today, Maria is officially the leader and uncatchable winner of the US Open Series...

“I’m not the next anyone. I’m the first Maria Sharapova...”
Australian Open Champion 2008 - French Open Champion 2012 & 2014
Wimbledon Champion 2004 - US Open Champion 2006
YEC Champion 2004 - London 2012 Olympics Silver Medalist

The only good part of Jelena losing the final.

Good job Maria, now go win yourself an extra million.

Unfortunately for her, she's not winning the USO.

No, actually, she won it last year. You know, as a Maria fan, you should really keep up to date on her title wins. Especially since they've been so few and far between recently.

Great that she has won this year. Although the US Open Series does mean nothing to a lot of people and is just for the benefit of American TV really.

No, what I'm saying is that she's going to do it again.

I'm sure you didn't pick her last year either.

She was the best player on hardcourts that year. Why wouldn't I have picked her? I didn't even think Henin would reach the final, and the only player who I thought had a good chance at beating her on fast hardcourts was Serena. And we know what happened there...

Anyway, it's a much different year now.

I don't think Maria's a bad player. I just think there are four players right now who can, and will beat her when playing well.

Well dealt with!

I think with her serve and her athleticism, her power, her court mobility, I just think when she’s on, she’s the greatest player we’ve ever seen, ever. Now, whether her record is the greatest remains to be seen because she hasn’t retired yet. But I think she is really the greatest player. I have seen Martina and Steffi at their best. There are little chinks in those players’ armor, but it was a different era, where you didn’t need to be the perfect player.
