Fake Painted Racquets?

One of my friends told me that some pro tennis players use older model racquets painted to look like the new ones. Is there any truth in this?

Re: Fake Painted Racquets?

Yup.

Remember the picture of Harkleroad where she had a 'Babolat' racquet with a Wilson logo on the bottom?

It's just to boost sales of that racquet by having a famous name attached to it.

Most of them

BTW, Ana Ivanović's racquet, Wilsone Ncode, is actually produced in HEAD factory, and it's something like the old RADICAL...

Re: Fake Painted Racquets?

Do the Williams do that though? Because at least recently their different rackets have been different sizes, etc. that the one after/before it. (nCode, their current ones..)

I don't think there's any need for them too since their racquets aren't being sold (as far as I know) - or at least not ones that are exactly the same design.

Look at the pictures at the side - they used to be there to advertise the frying pans :lol@

I think Venus and Serena are using some form of Kfactor now. Back in 2001-2003 I think they may have been paint jobs.

"I want to do things on my own terms, I can't have anything take me out.
I have never given up and it's important for me to prove to myself that I can do this, and to prove to me that i'm a champion.
If I were just to sit down, lay down and give in, then I wouldn't have any respect for myself."

Not all.. but a lot of the top players. Because of the high profile sponsorships that they have.

Re: Fake Painted Racquets?

Well, for instance, I heard that Federer uses the same racket he's used since he was a teenager. But every time Wilson comes out with a new model, he gets it painted to look like that racket.

Re: Fake Painted Racquets?

I think Andy Murray is against paintjobs he still uses the model my friend used about 4-5 years ago..
I remember Berdych used a Dunlop one while other 'Dunlop-users' had paintjobs.
I remember Patty with that grey model too.

Amelie has a paintjob, doesn't she? she's still using Dunlop I think
Dechy-Wilson paintjob,Head-racquet

Simona Halep
Juan Martin Del Potro

Re: Fake Painted Racquets?

Almost all men in the top 100, many women as well. Those who don't have paintjobs still have heavily customized racquets to best meet their needs anyways.

Many people say older racquets are better: that's true IMO, but not everyone agrees. A theory is that most pros choose to keep their old racquets just because they're used to them...

Im pretty sure Serena used a 106 nblade at the begining of the year(same string pattern, head shape, and grommets), but it may have been customized to be a Kfactor as of right now. Also from 1999-2004 Serena used the same racquet, the 6.4 hammer with powerholes, the racquet she won her first major with.
