I've just realized something about french players and Slams final.
1994: Mary Pierce reached the final of the FO
1995: Mary Pierce won the AO
1997: Mary Pierce reached the final of the AO
Mary Pierce has a two handed backhand
1998: Nathalie Tauziat reached the final of Wimbledon
1999: Amélie Mauresmo reached the final of the AO
Tauziat and Mauresmo have a one handed backand
2000: Mary Pierce won the FO
2005: Mary Pierce reached the final of the FO and the final of the US Open
2006: Amélie Mauresmo won the AO and Wimbledon
2007: Marion Bartoli reached the final of Wimbledon
So the next french player to win a Slam or to reach the final will be a two handed backhand player!
1995 Australian Open champion
2000 Roland Garros champion
1994 Roland Garros runner-up
1997 Australian Open runner-up
2005 Roland Garros and US Open runner-up
1997 and 2005 YEC runner-up
She'll be back
Mary Pierce "There was this little voice inside of me that just said, 'You're not done. Now's not the time to retire. You still have some great things to accomplish in tennis.'" the best of the rest.. lindsay DAVENPORT|jelena JANKOVIC|tatiana GOLOVIN|dinara SAFINA|francesca SCHIAVONE|daniela HANTUCHOVA|alona BONDARENKO|anastasia MYSKINA|

Sorry, you kids just don't have the prospects. France has a lot of players to crowd the top 100 and some strong candidates for a solid career, but major champions you have not-- well maybe Mauresmo will wake up and win again or Pierce will storm a title.
