Hoooooooooray congrats to my fave and greatest gal Jelena!

Number 6, only couple points in front of Lindsay but still, go Jelena!

That was of course just my opinion, because it would take an inspired run for Jelena to repeat last year with good players actually playing the tournaments (I don't believe she beat one top tenner other than Kim Clijsters that entire run) I also believe that Hantuchova is a better player. But only time will tell.

The term "quantity over quality" really stands out in Jelena's case. If she were to play an "normal" amount of tounaments each year, and not twice as many as the players ranked around her, she would not be in the top ten. Daniela should definitley be in the top ten, ranked in front of Jelena, and Henin, DEFINITLEY should be ranked higher than Jelena.
Not to be trashing Jelena or anything, she is definitley top 20 or even 15 material, but I am only stating the "REAL" facts.

This thread was created to give props to Jelena and it appears some people misread that as a reason to try to bring down the fact that she has achieved the #6 ranking. What a shame.

Yes, opinions are opinions but there's a time to give an opinion and a time not to.

I think Jelena gets overlooked far too often when comparisons are made to nice players and I have to say from what I've seen in her interviews and stuff that she is definitely one of the better persons on the tour and she has achieved much given some of the obstacles that have been in her way.

Congratulations on her new ranking. :D

Even being Jelena fan I tend to agree that her points are strongly backed up by hard work. But by achieving #6 (her career high) is SOMETHING one or other way. Why people tend to underestimate commitment part of her points. It is just she compensates her game negative aspects with hard work. And that deserves at least some credit I think.

Yeah Jelena's one of the hardest working gals on the tour...and for those who say shes living off a huge number of tournaments who says she wouldnt have done well on a smaller, concentarted schedule where she'd be restedand fresh for her matches?

whilst most of you bring a lot of pessimissm in to your anti-dokic analysis as a jelena fan id like to look on this with optimism and that fewer tourneys= better quality...perhaps if jelena only played 17 tournaments she may have picked the ones she did well in and her rank would still be where it is? no one knows!

anyway its jelenas second time this year to reach number 6, she also did it a few months ago...shes no flash in the pan shes here to stay! Theres also nothing wrong with you thinking Daniella's better but to assert she should be ranked higher than Jelena is absurd for the time being...itd be OK if Daniella had quite a few more tournament wins to her name in her best 17 events(jelena has 5) but saying that now is unjusitified

Well, I'll agree that Hingis and Davenport are better than Jelena but Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Hantuchova are all debatable.

Jelena beat Henin and Mauresmo in their last meetings, and she has beaten Kim and if she wasn't injured in Hamburg, who knows what could have happened there. Hantuchova's game doesn't match Jelena, does that mean she's better? Well that's debatable, I for one would say that the same applies to Anne Kremer who I don't think is better than Jelena.

Way to go. I think it's a mildstone because she's
doing it the hard way. It's something to be
proud of. Everyone goes on way to much about the
number 1's ;but in reality being in the top 25 is considered
having a good career. Jelena has the talent and deserves
to be in the top 5- she just has to do better in larger Tier
events.

Congrats Kid!!

Yeah, she already reached #6 february this year after beating Seles and reaching the indoors finals in Paris, so this is no new career-high ranking. But congrats anyway :) And for her critics, she accomplished it then with a lot less tournaments played and after skipping the AO (so much for her ranking being based only on quantity)! If it hadn't been for her injuries she would probably have been in the top 5 already back then, instead, she had to enter more tournaments just to compensate for her injury withdrawals and to keep her match rhythm going.

And regarding Hantuchova, I didn't notice this thread was about her, but anyway... At #12 she has played 24 tournaments, that's more than any other player ranked above her except Dokic, and you say it's Jelena's "fault" that Hantuchova isn't in the top 10?? Here's some basic math for you:

Jelena has gained 3076 points in 31 tournaments which divided gives 99 pts / tournament
Hantuchova has gained 1950 points in 24 tournaments which gives 81 points / tournament

And this doesn't take into account Jelena's frequent injury withdrawals and losses in between all these injuries. So by what standards does Hantuchova belong in the top 10? I call that wishful thinking (in fact, more wishing than thinking) :p

Yay!! Well done Jalena you definitley deserve it after all the tournaments you've been in this year.

I don't see the point in criticising Jalena when she's just made it to no.6. Everyone's entitled to an opinion but you've gotta be a quality player to be at no.6.

Congrats Jalena!
