When I first started posting on tennis websites, it was during the era of Venus, Hingis, and Anna Kournikova. (Mind you, I've been a fan since McEnroe, but we didn't have internet back then). I will still say that these three women had an era of their own, and were solely responsible for tennis' continued successful transition from the Monica/Steffi era to our current era.

We could depend on personality because the internet did for them what video did for music(Video killed the radio star....anybody remember that song? Anyway....), boy, did these three women give us diva-like personality.

Well, the MAJOR battle was always between Hingis and Venus. Who's better? Who's career is better? Richard. Melanie. Boyfriends. Serena. Beads. Grunts. Forehands. Backhands. Swinging Volleys. Formal Education. Big Mouths.

Now that Venus has eclipsed Hingis in the Slam department, I'm wondering if those lovable battles with Hingis fans have ended for me. I hope not.

Henin has replaced Hingis, but it's not as fun to compare Henin and the sisters. 1999-2000 were fun times.

I lurked in 1999 and joined the old boards in 2000. Yes, the one ruled with an iron fist by Anne Bonney. :secret:

I thought the funniest time was when Davenport beat Serena in 2000 US Open and the comments about how it was Lindsay's turn to stop the all-Williams final turned into a massive fight on the boards. It was ugly.

Oh, I certainly remember that fight. OMG! I remember the fight with Anna and Hingis in the lockerroom. There were rumours of things being thrown and each other and all kinds of stuff.

I absolutely loved the 1999-2000 era :hearts:

Venus. Serena. Anna. Martina. It was a fantastic time for women's tennis! :D
So did I.

Now they all get along, I think...what's the relationsip like between Venus and Hingis?
Anna and Hingis obvioulsy get along and Anna commented that Serena is one of her favorie players to watch play:

Q. The magazine often, whenever we get a subject, tries to do some sort of Top 5 list, And I know this is going to be off the top of your head. But who are the Top 5 tennis players that you enjoy watching today? And that would either be in person or on television.
ANNA KOURNIKOVA: Well, for me, it's always going to be my two favorite players ever are Monica Seles and Andre Agassi. I mean, I know they're not playing right now. But, for me, they are like the most amazing people ever. But did you mean by any player or right now?

Q. I'll take both, actually. Let's even say just over the course of your tennis career.
ANNA KOURNIKOVA: Yeah, it's Monica Seles, Andre Agassi. And then, right now, it's really, I mean, I don't know if there is like someone particular player that I like to watch. I just watch kind of everything for results. I spent yesterday watching, oh, my gosh, the match between Henman and Moya, you know, that was like crazy.
So, yeah, I don't know if there's one particular player right now I love to watch my friends. I love to watch Kim Clistjers, but, as we all know, she stopped. She was amazing in the last few years. She was always very entertaining to watch her.

Q. That's pretty good. Can you give me two more quick ones so we can sort of round it out at five?
ANNA KOURNIKOVA: Let's see, I mean, Nadal is amazing to watch right now, I guess. Who else? Who else? Serena, I always like to watch Serena. There's always drama, like in a good way. She's a complete fighter, so that's great.
