When I first started posting on tennis websites, it was during the era of Venus, Hingis, and Anna Kournikova. (Mind you, I've been a fan since McEnroe, but we didn't have internet back then). I will still say that these three women had an era of their own, and were solely responsible for tennis' continued successful transition from the Monica/Steffi era to our current era.
We could depend on personality because the internet did for them what video did for music(Video killed the radio star....anybody remember that song? Anyway....), boy, did these three women give us diva-like personality.
Well, the MAJOR battle was always between Hingis and Venus. Who's better? Who's career is better? Richard. Melanie. Boyfriends. Serena. Beads. Grunts. Forehands. Backhands. Swinging Volleys. Formal Education. Big Mouths.
Now that Venus has eclipsed Hingis in the Slam department, I'm wondering if those lovable battles with Hingis fans have ended for me. I hope not.
