As topic, she seems like very independent on tour. She hardly mentions she has any friends on the tour. What I can hear most is Kirilenko. But it seems that they're not close as they were now. Maybe the status between them is far different now. Maria's world no.2while another is world no. 44. Aside from her, do you guys have heard of any others? She's so 'isolated' on every tournament.
It's hard to be friends with someone who beats you everytime you play
Thats probably why Golovin and her arent close anymore.
I think Sharapova is friends with Kuznetsova and Hantuchova since they practice together. She's probably friends with people she has played doubles with as well such as Kirilenko, Bartoli, Zvonareva and Tanasugarn.
These days I dont think many players associate with others that much though.
She's probably friends with Kirilenko. It's so funny because there is always these type of threads when it comes to the women.
During a tournament everyone is doing what they must do to win the tournaments. They are training, practicing, getting attended to physically, making it to the courts they are assigned to play on, giving press interviews, battleing weather conditions, etc. They are not there to show everyone they are friendly.
Their end goal is to do what needs to be done to win.
It's funny that everyone excepts Roddicks, Blakes, Geneprie, and companies friendship.
People always want a confrontation where the women are concerned. Maria Sharapova has beaten Kirilenko several times, but not enough where they should not be friends.
Sharapova is bigger, stronger, and a better player than barbie doll Kirilenko.
Kirilenko doesn't have the weapons to beat the top players.
Hrmm...I dont see Sharapova as having friends on tour, but do you really consider Venus/ Serena/ Henin/ any top player? Its the work place. are you best buds with the people you work with? you may respect them....but its not like you're drinking with them all the time... lol
Well I'm just wondering if she's got any friends on tour, although it might not be a must to have friends on tour. The reason I raised this question is that many players talks about their friends on tour but Maria hardly mentions anything about that.
Pffftt all that friendship crap is an act. And I'm talking about most players on tour here, but particularly the media friendly ones. I'm sure the WTA Tour is not some happy family, and I'm sure that Maria does not hang out with any of them really unless there is some contractual obligation (ie player parties) or an "awkward incident" when she revealed her true colours in those matches against Golovin last year and their agents organised a nice little firendly trip to a basketball game which was a complete farce. It's amazing really how many times people post that picture of them together to somehow prove that things between them are fine - it was a clear example of nice public relations bullshit to smooth things over.
