Exclamation No one owns Flushing Meadows

Serena owns the Australian Open, winner in 2003,2005 and 2007.

Justine owns Roland Garros, winner in 2003,2005,2006 and 2007.

Venus owns Wimbledon, winner in 2000,2001,2005 and 2007.

No one owns the US Open! Who will step up and be Queen of Flushing Meadows?

Contenders:

Serena - 1999,2002
Venus - 2000,2001
Justine - 2003
Kuznetsova - 2004
Sharapova - 2006

I could see Ivanovic stepping up and filling this role. Maybe.

Thoughts?

BTW, the US Open is also the slam that's gone the longest without a three-peat winner. The last was Chris Evert in the late 70's.

It is truly open.

Divas: Seles, Sharapova, Muguruza
Pas de Quatre:
Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Coppélia

Re: No one owns Flushing Meadows

Venus has the best record there She's only lost to absolutely on-fire players there(Serena, Davenport during her great run and Clijsters during her insane summer run)

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

Re: No one owns Flushing Meadows

serena and venus are close to owning it cuz if any of those two get one more then....3 trophies would qualify somewhat in the 'owning' sense

I'm not young enough to know everything.

Serena could win her third US OPEN without injury. But I'm not sure How long can she stay health.

Re: No one owns Flushing Meadows

Flushing Medows is the hardest to own because the Hard court season is so long and the hard courts do more damage on the body IMO. And its at the end of the season, so everyone is usually injured, just coming back... Remember the year Justine won. The only top players there were her and Clijsters. Venus/ Serena. Hingis and others were all injured/ retired....

Re: No one owns Flushing Meadows

Vee would probably be my pick, given her great record from 97-present. She had several years of making at least the SF or F or W...

Re: No one owns Flushing Meadows

The US Open Series is going to be fun. It's pretty much the last chance for the players to win something big (basically something the that public/avg. tennis viewer would know about). It would be great to see Venus or Serena take the USO this year, but I feel that it is still such a wide open tournament. I can see V or S, Justine, Jelena, or just a complete unknown winning it. Who knows? But we all have to stay tuned...

My thread is more insightful than: "this is another 2005" or "Kim's not here so who's going to win US Open" or "they're all one court wonders".

This tournament has had very random winners in the last few years and no one has dominated since Evert's days. Not even Navratilova, Graf, Seles nor the Williams sisters could win three consecutive titles here.

Why? Is it because it's at the end of the year and the form players are tired and more prone to upsets? Is it because of the surface? Is it because of the crowd and atmosphere?
