What is wrong with the point system?

In Febuary Serena moved from 81 to 18 while Venus only moved from 31 to 17, that just seems strange to me.

Re: What is wrong with the point system?

There are so many factors that can affect their ranks... For example the other players' performance and their original ranks. Just becasue they both win GS doesn't mean their ranking improvement will be almost the same. 14 places up sounds reasonable to me considering that she's ranked 31th before Wimbledon.

I too was wondering about this, especially since she defeated three top players along the way.

Re: What is wrong with the point system?

its harder to move up the ranks the higher you are.

you didnt really expect her to move 60 places from 31 did you

Re: What is wrong with the point system?

It is partly because of the new ranking system
In January, Serena's 1000 points meant more because players' ranking points were still from 2006 ranking system (where GS wins only gave 700 points)
Now it is July and 3 GS have been played using the new ranking system so players have more points and 1000 points does not mean as much

Re: What is wrong with the point system?

If Vee continues to play well she will only gain points for the rest of the season because she only played once after Wimbledon last year.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the SILENCE OF OUR FRIENDS. MLK

Re: What is wrong with the point system?

What you expected her to jump up to #1? Even though her only other highlight bar this was a Tier III title?

Exactly. Serena's 1000 was like an addition of 5000 pts (sarcasm) while Venus' 1000 is just a little boost considering, for example, Tier I's are 430 for a champion and several have been played while at Serena's time, none were played.

Re: What is wrong with the point system?

if Venus lost in R1 last year her ranking after this year's win would be higher. But she reached 4th round or QF last year so it's less point to add to her ranking.
