I think it is so fitting that 50 years after Althea Gibson became the first African American to win a championship at Wimbledon, the most successful female of the 2000s at Wimbledon wins her 4th title. It also makes it fitting because Venus was such a force in the fight for equal prize money. Looking at it now...seems like DESTINY!!!

I really couldn't agree more.

It's also fitting that again Venus is the lowest seed to win Wimbledon. When will they finally seed her 1-4?? Nobody is better then her on grass, it's fitting that she is exposing these idiots. People are starting to question Wimby's stupidness.

Absolutely. Althea and Arthur Ashe would be so proud of both Serena and Venus because they've become such great ambassadors for the game. The Williams sisters aren't finished either - both of them have proven that there's still Grand Slams for them to win. They have written such a great part of this sport's history, and it's very fitting that Venus won her fourth title here.

I don't quite see the fight for equal prize money.
It's not like she ever even hinted that she would not play a tournament if they didn't give equal prize money.
Billie Jean King did.

I see it as a continuation of something Billie Jean worked her whole life to see.

At the same time it's like giving Jesse Jackson credit for "changes" in America when all he did is talk, while Martin Luther King Jr. not only talked but acted.

not true.

BJK, Rosie Casals & company formed the WTA. they risked the most, paved the way, deserve all kudos that comes their way & more. these pioneers of the modern women's game are worthy of respek and deserve thunderous accolades. Hail!

i'm not alone in processing Vee's assertion to be "extremely proactive in the struggle for equal pay" as, at the very least, a "hint" of labor trouble. (way too lazy to provide links for someone committed to ignorance but most media houses interpreted/understood a clear labor threat; google is your friend)

really though, the dynamics are different from BJK times. Larry Scott, probably won't ever be acknowledged for his quiet diplomacy behind the scenes, but he and BJK are important parts of the foundation for equal pay.

in the end, your comment, just seems like trivial nitpicking. basically your problem is Vee didn't agitate exactly as you thought she should. seems silly when the the suits deciding the matter, admitted without prompting, that they found Venus' argument persuasive.

its really admirable to want to know it all ...

of course that includes an ability/humility to admit being wrong. Venus has alluded to labor trouble in her advocacy for equal pay. and you're wrong saying she never even "hinted" at same.

the rest of your post is just hopeless mumble jumble trying to confuse that simple fact.:wavey:

I don't do allude. You mention it or you don't.
Again if that was the case then I'm sure Venus would also have worked towards getting equal pay at joint tournaments that she herself enjoys playing.
There's no proof of that happening.

You can play the reasonable doubt, we don't know what happens behind the scenes stunt with someone else.
Whether you like to believe it or not it doesn't make sense and you have given no proof except for your words which are empty as usual.
