Will Venus keep this up?

Which Venus do you think will show up in the hardcourt season?

Re: Will Venus keep this up?

The same Venus that showed up in 2005 when she won Wimbledon.
She'll play someone like Jankovic or Chakvetadze who can run down shots and direct them for winners.

Seems like Venus has become a grass court specialist which is not a bad thing if you win Wimbledon every other year.

Re: Will Venus keep this up?

After she won Wimbledon in 2005, she was playing great at the U.S. Open and I thought she would win it that year. She was up a set and a break on eventual champ Kim Clijsters, but somehow it slipped away. I think the U.S. Open will definetly go to one of the sisters...or Marion Bartoli

Um, it was just a simple question. No need to get bent out of shape. I'm asking because Venus is completely unpredictable and shows this brand of tennis once in a while.

Re: Will Venus keep this up?

I always thought Venus would've won the US Open that year had she not been injured/sick for the US Open Series. She just wasn't fit and really exhausted and couldn't keep up with Kim that year. But she was definitely playing better than Kim for the first set and a half and it looked like it was going to be a real beat down.

Yes, she is. But good god, that's not the question I was asking.

Re: Will Venus keep this up?

I said after Memphis a new and improved Venus is on the tour. Although up until today it had not worked out that way, Venus is now ready to take her rightful spot. She is using more spin on her forehand and that Serve is booming. Still needs additional work on that second serve. But if she keeps serving in the high70's and low 80's it will not matter.

Beat'em down Ms Williams, beat'em down!
SERENA PRINCESS OF POWER

Victoria Duval - coming to a slam near you
Françoise Abanda definitely a future #1 --- Taylor Townsend devastation on the march
Venus and Serena ferocious grannies --- Kimiko Date Krumm great granny still doing her thing.

i 100% agree...

she really is a sort of grass specialist, that being said she's still one of the top players on hardcourt as well, and she should (assuming this adductor injury or whatever isn't serious) post some good results and have good wins and lose only to top players, just like in 2005, she lost to kim who was just unstoppable on hard that year, if someone else is having a great US season she could lose to them, or if no one really steps up there is no reason she can't win some titles (or even in NY)

It will always be Arantxa, hall of famer! and martina hingis and kim clijsters - amazing legends
ana ivanovic and the italian girls, especially pennetta (forza azzurre! RG CHAMP FRANCESCA AND FINALIST SARA!)
aga, vika, sam, na in the next tier
NEVER say "I don't care who wins, I just want good tennis"

i agree she didnt have enough left especially after the second set. maria seemed tire too after winning the second set tiebreak vs clijsters in the semis.

not bent in any way.
  • after all the speculation about whether she'd ever win another slam its a perfectly legitimate question. dunno why i thought the presentation ceremony would have at least started before it was posed ...
