Choke Of The Decade.... Henin/bartoli

Come on... no one has mentioned what a choke this was?
Bartoli is a decent enough player i guess, but she has NOTHING on paper to hurt Justine.
Just a couple of days ago they were proclaiming Justine the toughest athlete in ALL of sports?

Not a choke, just a HUGE upset.

Justine didn't crack under pressure while up break points or match points she just got beat.

Re: Choke Of The Decade.... Henin/bartoli

Yeah I was thinking about taking time to say how Henin ruined a possible all Williams final cuz Serena wouldnt've choked like that against a player but then i thought " now that would be just rude" but I obviously didnt care cuz i posted this anyway LOL i'm sorry but when I saw the result I laughed for a good 5 mins I can't believe she lost honestly but hey its not as easy to close out any player to get to a GS final I'm sure

She just ran out of steam.
She's working the hardest for the last 6 weeks.
Give her a break.

Not entirely true either.
She was 5/5 for conversion, and then that's when it stopped.

Bartoli played great, only because Justine was doing the wrong thing.

Justine didn't choke... she simply crushed by a dominate Marion. And Justine didn't played her best form doesn't mean she choked.

Inspiration is for amateurs

Of the clips I saw, Bartoli was going for big shots AND making them happen. I mean what can Justine do on grass when someone is just playing out of their mind?

Justine is usually aggressive on grass. She sliced the big majority of her backhands. Since when does she do that? Her forehand had barely anything on it.

I agree with the thread starter that Bartoli isn't that special. she's not even that much of a hard hitter. She caught today a very weak Justine, and definitely took the opportunity.

Re: Choke Of The Decade.... Henin/bartoli

When a big player like Juju looses unexpectedly its not automatically a choke, Henin never had the big opportunties to waste or choke away in the second or third set - her problem was that she had underestimated Marion's ability to adapt to her strategies just like she did against Jankovic. Players think Marion will be slow so they won't have to do much - Henin relied too much on her slices and Bartoli started taking them earlier and exploiting Justine's weak forehand.

True Justine didn't play her top top match (but this is W not RG anyway) but it doesn't mean that Marion didn't deserve to win - how many players do you know that could hold their nerve so perfectly in Marion's position?

if sharapova was beaten by unknown out side top 20, people here would demand she should retire.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the match b/c of NBC. But yeah for Marion to give Justine a breadstick, something had to be wrong. I'm not saying a hot Marion can't take a set off Justine, but for Justine to only hold serve once, well, that says something about Justine's game. But like you said, Bartoli took adavantage and kudos to her for that. We've seen so many other players not take advantage when given the opportunity to beat a top player.

Re: Choke Of The Decade.... Henin/bartoli

Yes, I do agree that Bartoli caught Justine at her weakest time in the past 6 weeks. But as I've always put it, you got to have the guts, the power, the skills to put out an opponent as competitive as Justine. Same goes for everything in life, you are always given opportunity, but you got to have the "stuff" to take advantage of it. So hats off to Marion on her win, and she deserves 100% of the credits for this performance. Same deal goes to the Serena / Justine match the other day.

Re: Choke Of The Decade.... Henin/bartoli

Let me preface this post with, I've always liked Justine (just not as much as my faves) and I never really watched much of Bartoli before seeing highlights of her beating Jelena

Actually to be honest...

...yes, a choke is preferred over a "just got beat"...

...for me if you choked it means that everyone watching knows that you should have one that match on that day and the other player was lucky to survive your meltdown...

...I didn't see a meltdown and Marion wasn't lucky...

...my favorite old southern saying is "you have to bring ass to kick ass"...

...loose translation, "in competition there is always the chance that you will be the loser"

Most people knew that Marion's ass was available for kicking but they forgot that Justine's tiny ass was on the court too and today it was quite kickable.
