Will MARION BARTOLI reach another slam final in her career?

Ok, so I'm getting sick of the Marion threads now too, but this is a question I am really interested in asking.

How do people think Marion's career will be affected by this amazing result? Will she build on it and be considered a real contender for future slams? Will she reach a few quarter finals here and there but never repeat this form? Will she fall apart under the pressure and expectation?

This run was just so out of the blue - completely different to Ivanovic's at Roland Garros what with her tier 1 clay court title previously, her age, progression, her handy draw etc. - especially considering Marion had only ever reached the 4th round of a slam once before (FO '07).

How do you think the result tomorrow will affect her career? If she loses, how will the impact be different to if she wins?

This run is a little reminiscint of Stevenson's, Fernandez's, Lucic's etc.. (even though they only reached the semis of their best slams) and they didn't have any real slam success afterwards. However, Marion is a top 20 player, who has been very promising for a number of weeks now, which makes this tournament so different.

Anyway, the rambling is basically asking, 'will she reach another slam final?' and 'how will the result tomorrow affect the rest of her career?'.

Any thoughts?

I'm really not sure. I think it will be a little easier to decide after tomorrow. I think my gut feeling is that she will make a few quarter finals and maybe the odd semi, but not a final again. But I am NOT going to right her off - look what she proved here! I hope Marion gets herself into great physical shape though because if she can make the final of Wimbledon in good shape, who knows what she could do in peak condition?!

It's possible. Some players improve. If someone like Safarova had a breakthru like this, I could understand it.
This girl doesn't have the movement or firepower of most of the slam contenders.

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there

Re: Will MARION BARTOLI reach another slam final in her career?

I think everybody forgets something important. Bartoli is French. And like most French players, she is maturing later.
Remember when she was young, everybody noticed her and saw some potential. But it took time for her to be consistent and reach Top 20.
Now Im not sure why French people mature later in their career (Bartoli is still pretty young though) but we have numerous examples. Tauziat, Halard, Testud, Mauresmo, and even when you look at the young promising men like Gasquet or Monfils, it took them a while to confirm their junior results, unlike a Nadal or Djokovic.
I'm not saying Bartoli will be a Mauresmo, or a Gasquet, but who knows, she might do more in her still young career.

I'll go with no, although i feel i may live to regret this.

I think with her serve and her athleticism, her power, her court mobility, I just think when she’s on, she’s the greatest player we’ve ever seen, ever. Now, whether her record is the greatest remains to be seen because she hasn’t retired yet. But I think she is really the greatest player. I have seen Martina and Steffi at their best. There are little chinks in those players’ armor, but it was a different era, where you didn’t need to be the perfect player.

I doubt it. If she does, congrats to her; if not, no thing on me.

I think she will. What was most impressive about her was that she didn't choke, no sign of nerves!

Re: Will MARION BARTOLI reach another slam final in her career?

I'm so sick of people saying she doesn't have weapons. Her ground strokes are amazing and have been the best of all 128 players in the Wimbledon draw. She paints lines and doesn't make errors, you try to do that

And who knows what this means for her career. We'll have to wait to find out.

"It’s always been, ‘I wonder what she’s got, Sharapova?’, because I don’t see that she’s got something that special… Or do you know? Can you tell? What’s so exceptional about her?”

I say no again, but she's proven me wrong and I actually wouldn't mind it at all!

Who said she didn't have weapons? Of course she does - she's in the final of Wimbledon!!

Again -

I've said "If she wins OR loses"

I'm asking what would happen in both circumstances. I haven't rooted Marion out of this final by any means. In fact, I think she has a very good chance to win and I would love the see that happen. Maybe some people will say it won't do women's tennis any favours, but who cares? She seems like a lovely girl with a big game, having the tournament of her life

I'll need to see more of her to make my decision. But I wouldn't be surprised if she reaches another Wimbledon final. Her strokes and playing style suits this surface, surprising given that she's two-handed on both sides.
