Olympics

Why isn't there a mixed doubles event in the Olympics?
It would be fun to see Bob Bryan and Venus win gold.

Re: Olympics

Well, it sort of makes sense that there is no mixed doubles event in the Olympics Mixed doubles only exist in the Slams, not even in regular WTA/ATP events.

Re: Olympics

Ellery what kinda of explanation is that. Why do they than exist at GS tournaments? I doubt that enough countries could manage to get two good players for mix, but why not

Well, for starters, the grand slams are run by the ITF, all the other events are run separately by two different organizations (ATP/WTA).

Re: Olympics

They SHOULD have mixed @ the Olympics. I still hold that tennis should be bigger @ the Olympics than it is.

There should be

Mens'/Womens' Singles/Doubles
Mixed

as WELL as a WTT-style team draw as well.

And I think that would give countries a chance for LOTS of players to get involved and show the depth of tennis.

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Been around the world, copped all 4 thrice.

Re: Olympics

Yes, that would be interesting. Singles, Doubles and Mixed and a team event.

Like they do it in table tennis...

I suppose it is true that not enough countries could come up with two players to team up for the mixed but then again, nominate your top singles players if you don't have any doubles specialists...

Re: Olympics

Olympics tennis tournament lasts for 8 days. Could you imagine Venus or Serena or Kuznetsova or Petrova (all good singles and doubles players) potentially playing 6 singles matches, 6 doubles matches and 6 mixed matches during 8 days span?

Re: Olympics

Obviously the duration of the tournament would have to be extended...

Re: Olympics

Thats a good point, there simply isn't time given the current schedule.. Maybe they could play 8-game pro-sets
