So why did NBC spoil the result of Venus' match?

Anyone else find that strange that NBC would give away the result to the Venus match and THEN televise it?

"I resolve to get arrested for indecent exposure," Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe on 24).

Thanks to the Internet, you have to go WAY out of your way to not know the results of any sporting event that's broadcast on tape delay.

I know it's hard to believe but everyone doesn't have internet and some of us try not to find out the results. But of course, I went on NBC's website to see if and what time Venus was going to be televised and the jerks had the results posted. You didn't even have to look for me. That really pissed me off.

Anyhow, I've heard stations announce to the viewers that they were going to announce the results so please leave the room if you don't want to know. You'd think NBC would know better.

Before you speak to me about your religion, first show it to me in how you treat other people; before you tell me how much you love your God, show me in how much you love all His children; before you preach to me of your passion for your faith, teach me about it through your compassion for your neighbors. In the end, I'm not as interested in what you have to tell or sell as in how you choose to live and give.

I actually think they shouldn't disclose it. I typically go way out of my way to avoid finding out. That's definitely a screw up. Typical!

Darrin's internet theory (presented in reverse) ain't bad except NBC's programming has never made even the slightest acknowledgment of the internet.

i think the announcers (John) let the cat out of the bag, NBC just rolled with the the as is. i don't think it was planned. ico's take

Re: So why did NBC spoil the result of Venus' match?

I thought it strange when Mary said it because they usually treat us viewers like we're on Mars with only NBC coverage.

On one hand it seems calculated and anti-climactic but on the other hand only people who actually live on Mars shouldn't have known the result yet.

Compared to yesterday when their entire coverage was tape-delayed and there was not one single live shot of the rainy conditions (from what I could see) I really don't know which was weirder.

It's 2008 and I'm shopping for a new fave. Hell no! And Venus is still playing?

Turn off the computer. Oh wait, thats not an option for most die hard tennis fans. Myself included I was watching the scoreboard when the venus vs masha was on. Even though it was only 2-3 games behind

Re: So why did NBC spoil the result of Venus' match?

Doesn't matter if you turn off the computer or not, in the middle of the Gasquet -Roddick match, unexpectedly they said That Bartoli would play Williams in the final, and then they said, we'll show you the other semifinal, Williams vs. Ivanovic at the conclusion of this match. Really stupid to give away the result. This is why I'm so mad. Do they even care?

Re: So why did NBC spoil the result of Venus' match?

And then, to make matters worse, not only did they mention it, but they actually put up a picture of the two side by side and said that this is the final on Saturday. My attemps to mute the volume and wait for the match were ruined when I see a picture of the two finalists before the matches are shown. Grr

Lets all email NBC SPORTS and let them know how we feel. feedback@nbcsports.com If enough people email them, then maybe they will relay the message to Mary, John and the gang

Re: So why did NBC spoil the result of Venus' match?

Actually, it did surprise me when they showed pics of the two finalists, especially considering how silent they were about it all earlier in the hours. I thought they had been trying to keep it a secret. I'm just happy they finally showed the match.

Weird thing is they've been showing tape delayed matches almost all week and acting like they were live. Now, they show us the outcome. Weird.

Yeah.. BUT at the same time im ALWAYS checking the scoreboard online b/c i cannot wait for it on tv! I think they just need to show the matches live! and that would solve everyone's problem!
