Which Will Happen First?

Justine Henin and Serena Williams are two of the most accomplished players in the era, and both are one tournament win away from reaching major career milestones.

Justine has won the Australian Open (2004) French Open (2003, 2005-2007) and US Open (2003).

Winning Wimbledon would give her a career Grand Slam, joining the ranks of:
Maureen Connolly (18 when she accomplished it)
Doris Hart (29)
Shirley Fry Irvin (29)
Margaret Court (20)
Billie Jean King (28)
Chris Evert (28)
Martina Navratilova (28)
Steffi Graf (19)
Serena Williams (21)

It would also give her a Career Golden Slam (all 4 majors, plus the singles Olympic Gold Medal) joining:
Steffi Graf (19)

Serena has won the Australian Open (2003, 2005, 2007) French Open (2002), Wimbledon (2002-2003) and US Open (1999, 2002).

Winning a second French Open title would give her a career double slam (winning all 4 majors twice), joining the ranks of:
Margaret Court (22)
Chris Evert (30)
Martina Navratilova (29)
Steffi Graf (20)

Serena is also one tournament away from completing a Singles Golden Slam (all 4 majors, plus the singles Olympic Gold Medal) joining:
Steffi Graf (19)

Serena has never played singles at the Olympics, but if she were to win in 2008/2012 etc., she would have a career Golden Slam in singles and doubles and be the first player to complete that historic achievement

Justine at Wimbledon: 2 Finals (2001, 2006), 3 Semifinals (2002, 2003, 2007) 2 1st Rounds (2000, 2005)

Serena at Roland Garros: Winner (2002), 1 Semifinal (2003), 3 Quarterfinals (2001, 2004, 2007), 1 4th Round (1998), 1 3rd Round (1999).

So Which Will Happen First?

Justine's Career Golden Slam
Serena's Career Double Slam
Serena's Complete Golden Slam

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Serena.

Re: Which Will Happen First?

Justine's starting to lose steam on that career slam. Serena at least already has the RG, which is the most difficult one for her.

Re: Which Will Happen First?

I am a bit confused. I picked Serena's double slam. This means I think it is more likely for Serena to win the French, then Justine to win Wimbledon.

But I think (I say this all the time) Serena should be going for the Super Slam.

I say Serena's career double slam, before the complete golden slam, because I think BOTH will happen next year

What's the super slam?

I think Serena is more likely to win the French if she's healthy than Justine to win Wimbledon. I just think she wants it so much. I hope she wins it next year.

I also want her to really win the Olympics and get the career slam. I really hope she's fully healthy next year as she has the ability to do all of these things.

But more than anything I want Serena to win a third Wimbly

So Serena please work hard, as next year you have to win the Olympics, Wimbly and the French

I hope so too

I think she could've won the FO and Wimbs this year if she played better in the FO and hadn't got injured here. But Venus would've been tough. An all Williams final would've been SUCH an amazing match.

She's only 2 away. I think she should play with Blake and win the other 2. They already won Hopman cup, and I think they have a good team chemistry. Serena actually lost in 7-6 in the third set of the AO mixed final w/ Mirnyi. But she should DEFINITELY play mixed at the French and the Aussie sometime soon.

I think she should just wait until her singles career is waning, because she can always in those 2, but I think she wants to pass BJK on the all-time singles list.

Navratilova is the only player that has completed what they call, "The Boxed Set"

Re: Which Will Happen First?

your wording is all wrong! if you say "grand" then that means all the same year. a grandslam is not a major, a grandslam is winning all slams in the same year

a career slam= winning all 4 slams at any point in your career.

grandslam= winning all four in the same year aka a callendar slam

slam= one of the big four tournaments aka a major

golden slam= winning all four majors and the gold in the olympics

golden grandslam= winning all 4 slams in the same year as winning the olympics, what steffi graf did in 88

greedy.

I take the question as this simple, will Serena win the Gold in 2008.

I think so.

Win the French.

I hope so.

Serena's first ever Slam final was the French Mixed (with Luis Lobo). They lost to Venus and Gimelstob. So Serena has been to all 12 finals, and won 10 of them

She would join Navratilova, Court and Hart as the only people (man or women) to have achieved this.

No-one could ever win all 3 events of all four in the same year. Yes Navratilova and Margaret Court both have the Boxed Set

Re: Which Will Happen First?

As a great I think Serena's status would be enhanced as much by another Wimbledon as a gold or French, which is why I said I want her to win all 3 next year.

Winning two of every slam would put her in a very select group, as select as the Serena Slam group. She would then be a Tier 1 ATG imo. However I feel she also needs a hatrick of Wimbledons, we all know she is one of best Wimbledon champions ever at her best. But titles speak more, she needs to catch up with Venus like she did in 2002/2002
