Is anyone else PISSED at ESPN/NBC?

This is ridiculous. It's the SEMIFINALS of Wimbledon, and the TV stations act like nothing is going on at all, except for the men's quarterfinals of course.

So, first we have Marion Bartoli vs. Justine Henin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they only show parts of this match twice. once when Marion wins the second set, and then Marion's last game to serve it out. Way to show us only the very very very end of the BIGGEST upset of the year. But noooo, it's all about Roddick and Gasquet, a match that's about 4 hours long, where its basically service winner after service winner. Couldn't they bother to flip flop matches, given that its the SEMIFINALS?

So, some may argue that Justine and Marion isn't the biggest blockbuster match, so what about the next semifinal, Venus vs. Ivanovic? Way to ruin the god damn suspense NBC, becuase they just showed that Venus won 6-2, 6-4. A huge part of watching Venus' matches are about the suspense, especially against a new and upcoming talent like Ana Ivanovic. So why ruin it for the audience? If you're going to show it on tape delay, DON'T MENTION THE WINNER. Now I'm happy Ill be able ot watch Venus' match later to appreciate the play, but where's the fun when I already know the result?

I know some may not agree with me, but this is just borderline ridiculous. Treating the two SEMIFINALS in the tournament like they don't even matter for the sacrifice of showing us a 5 hour mens match. You could fit a women's match in the middle of a men's match and still get to see 3 hours of Roddick/Gasquet, etc battling it out on court. And as far as Venus Williams, it's like telling me a really really good movie is about to come on, and then right before telling me EXACTLY what's going to happen.

Let's see if they'd ever the give same coverage to a match like (12) Dementieva vs. (3) Jankovic, the same as (12) Gasquet vs. (3) Roddick. Bullshit. I wouldn't doubt that they interrupt the ladies' final to show some men's semis. With the way they are going this year, wouldn't shock me at all if we just get the highlights.

Yes, because I do not want to watch five sets of Roddick vs Gasquet.

I agree. NBC's coverage might perhaps be the worst, most ill thought out I've ever seen. Please, please people email them and let them know. It's PATHETIC!!!

It's unlucky that today had so many great matches, I am sure ESPN will show more of the Justine in "Complete Wimbledon" or something.

These matches shouldn't even be going on at the same time, so ultimately you have to blame the rain.

Yeah, I've got a thread semi-related to this going. Apparently, they're now going to show the Venus semi. If it wasn't for the WS and Pova, the US fans would never see anything. You'd think they would show the world number one being taken down, but it's all about the cash. The French with the coverage split between the Tennis Channel, ESPN and NBC was much better.

This is why I never cheer for Roddick or Blake...because if they stay in a tournament we're subjected to this crap.

NBC has always had awful coverage. Let's not forget that NBC is for the general public, not for us tennis fans who actually know who Bartoli is.

Re: Is anyone else PISSED at ESPN/NBC?

That's true.. Thank god for Venus, Serena, and Sharapova. Once Venus and Serena retire, who knows what the hell they'll show on TV? Its just sad.. I mean, there are players that I would LOVE to see.. I wish I could've seen Kuzy's run to the QFs but not once did they shower her. Same with Dementieva being taken out. But they'll definitely show Davydenko and Monfils battle it out for 5 hrs.

Its getting so bad where I kinda want seperate tournaments. Who would have ever thought it would come to a point where you can't see both of the semi finals completely? I don't think I'vemissed a GS semi since 2000, that's almost 7 years. Thanks NBC!

I detest NBC. If you're going to do a piss poor job of covering tennis, why bother? Bastards.

I can only see NBC. I get the impression that McEnroe has something to do with it. There is an idea that men's matches are more worthwhile for the audience to see than women's matches.

Even in the women's matches McEnroe keeps mentioning things about the men's.

And what pisses me off even more is that those assholes want exclusive rights to the women's semis and then they don't show them.
And those fools at Wimbledon has just extended their contract with NBC.

Yeah, if it were world number 1 Federer going down to 18 Nieminen, imagine how many times we'd see that again? I wouldn't doubt it if they ran it back to back. They need to do ALL Grand Slams in partnership with the Tennis Channel. They actually care about tennis there.

Re: Is anyone else PISSED at ESPN/NBC?

The Gasquet-Roddick match was competitive; the Venus-Ivanovic match wasn't. Roddick is American; Henin and Bartoli aren't. Those two factors, plus the fact they had five hours to fill, is why NBC did what they did. As much as I love Venus, I think they made the right decision.

This is another reason that I don't care for best of five. If you lose the first two sets you should go home. The women know this.
