Serena is the first woman in the Open Era to win the "Old World" in the same year.

Serena Williams, who missed the Australian Open with a sprained right ankle, became the first woman in the Open Era (before 1968) and the in tennis history to win the "Old World" -- taking the championships of Italy, France and England in the same season.

CONGRATULATIONS SERENA!

Congrats to Serena but I never knew this concept existed

What about Germany? The Berlin-German Open that is part of the old world technically.

Actually Serena is the second in the Open era to complete the Old World triple. Chris Evert also did it in 1974.

Great job Serena!
