Seles Honored With Tournament Name
Monica Seles attended a press conference today in Flushing, New York, at the site of the final Grand Slam event of the year. Seles was lured there under false pretenses, as event organizers kept a big secret from her, and the rest of the world.
Beginning this year, the tournament will know officially be known as the Unstoppable Seles Open
. Monica, two times a champion, was surprised and honored at the USTA's decision.
'Oh yeah, definately, it's a big honor from the USTA. I'm just so happy that I'm playing tennis at such a high level still, and now to have a Grand Slam named after is so meaningful.'
In other news, the USTA has announced plans to construct an even bigger center court showplace for matches, surpassing the current Arthur Ashe stadium in ammenitites and size. There has been no official name for the new arena yet, however it will have a hotel, casino, and family recreational area, as well as, a fully function retracable roof.
A source, speaking on the terms of annonimity, told reporters during a phone interview, that the new stadium will be named Court Monica Seles - however that decree will not be made official until after Monica has collected her 10th Grand Slam at the newly christened Unstoppable Seles Open in August/September 2002.
