Lucie's "real" ranking?

I think it's fairly obvious after yesterday's match that Safarova is better than quite a few players ranked above her.

But I have only seen her play a few times. What do people think her ranking should be right now?

I'm not talking about when she improves/gets more experience, less erratic etc, I mean as of now.

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze

Re: Lucie's "real" ranking?

Safarova is definitely Top 10 material right now. She shouldn't be meeting the top players in the early rounds. I honestly think that she is one of the few players who can successfully challenge Henin (look to the AMAZING Paris result) and the others. I fully expect her to have a great hardcourt season, culminating in a great run at the US Open.

Re: Lucie's "real" ranking?

i would say about #17.

when she adds that LITTLE bit of consistency, i'd say she's top ten.

I pretty much agree. Lucie has at least top twenty potential if not higher. The only thing she's really missing is consistancy week in and week out.

Re: Lucie's "real" ranking?

I know what her real ranking is, that's why I put the word in inverted commas.

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze

Re: Lucie's "real" ranking?

Her real ranking is her ranking right now.
The players ranked in front of her don't have games that dissapear months on end.
She might have more top 10 wins than many of them but they're a factor in tournaments in most cases, all year.

Re: Lucie's "real" ranking?

Whatever she is at now is her "real" ranking.

She's streaky and has patches of brilliance and then patches of errors galore.

she's starting to put it together, though.

like against daniilidou, she kept a pretty high level throughout the entire match. i was very impressed in that match.

Re: Lucie's "real" ranking?

Let's not forget that for every scalp of a Mauresmo or Henin, she has a loss to someone like Azarenka, Bammer, Safina. Her ranking should be a bit higher towards the end of the year though, as she's really elevated her play this season. I'd say about #17 or #18.

Re: Lucie's "real" ranking?

I know it was only one match but I can't see all the 24 players above her being better than Lucie now. Her 2007 form is way up she must be high up on the year end race I would have thought?
So her relatively low ranking is based more on her ordinary 2006, she's a different player now.

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze
