Top Ten Wins in 2007 - Juju and the Serbians on top!

Feel free to point out any errors if you see any. I didn't include any walkovers (but did include retirements mid-match), nor any players who have only 1 win over a top ten player.

Yup...Clijsters in the final of Antwerp (I think)...but poor Amelie was out with injury for quite some time.

Thanks for this.

Wow Na Li with four wins over Top 10 players

Maria with only two - that's surprising.

Didn't Julia also beat Kim in Warsaw this year for a Top 10 win? Or was Kim already out of the Top 10?

Yes, that's what I thought because I remember her being ranked in the Top 2 at the event.

intersting that Sharapova is only 11'th in that list but 6 in the race. It suppots people claims that Sharapova gets cupcake draws at slams,off-course.

She was repeatedly beating top 10 players near the end of last season, which gave her a good ranking, which gives you a better seed, which gives you easier draws, deservedly.

Thanks.

Thanks for pointing out Vakulenko's win over Clijsters...I had missed it! And yes, Vaidisova was just outside of the top ten during the Aus Open.

I was also surprised to see that Anna C doesn't really have all that many top wins...doesn't bode well for her continuing her climb...

Hmmm...I dunno. Maria definitely showed she was a (or the) top player at the end of last year. But it *is* interesting to see that somebody who has reached a slam final and semi-final this year only beat two top ten players. A lot of this is just the draw opening up and Maria being out with injury...but it should make for an interesting Wimbledon. Personally I see her trouncing through to the semis or final

Flawed argument. Seedings prevent you from meeting over seeded players early on in the tournaments. She's gotten to a GS final and semifinal while facing hardly any top ten players. Theoretically, if every top ten player was playing at tournaments, Maria could've met the number ten ranked player in the fourth round of every tournament she's played while number two in the world. She hasn't. There's two reasons for this: Some top ten players didn't play the GSs, resulting in ranking not matching up with seeding, and luck.
