Re: The Serena-Justine rivalry right now, reminds me of:
Nice observation. I hadn't thought about how similar the two rivalries were but now that you mention it, I can see it too. All tennis fans were cheated not being able see them (Stef & Mon) compete against one another more often. All of their matches had this special feeling to them, you can feel that each match was significant and they both always gave it their all.
Justine and Serena have a similar type feeling to a lesser degree. I think their last match was a bit of a let down and it took some of the excitemnent away. Serena's half-hearted effort was a bit of a disapointment, but that outcome may turn out to be what Serena needed to avoid any future let downs in big tournaments- something we as fans haven't seen from her in the slams. If their QF match happens I think it will respark the fire in the rivalry. Although I think Serena will pull away with the win, I don't see Justine going down without a fight (like Serena at RG). I actually think Justine's more motivated to beat her here than she was in Paris. On the other hand, Justine will not be playing the Serena that showed up at 'the French'. A motivated Serena is a winning Serena!
With regards to the rivalry it would probably add more excitement if Justine is able to defeat Serena on another surface, especially at Wimbledon. Justine getting so close at Miami made things a lot more interesting than I could have imagined. Let me be clear though, I'm not as interested in their rivalry as I am with Serena, in other words, I don't need close matches or Justine ever winning for me to love their rivalry.
