Thumbs up The Sandrine Testud Tribute Thread

Reports have been confirmed that the world #10 has retired from tennis, expecting child with her husband and coach Victor.

Post all your fond memories and good luck messages for the late blooming french woman here

For me it was in the 1997 Wimbledon third round against Monica that I first recognised her as a potential top player, coming back from a 0-6 first set and multiple match points to win 10-8 in the third.

Since then of course, she has travelled to the quarterfinals of both Melbourne Park and Flushing Meadows, defeated Venus, Serena, Jennifer and Lindsay in memorable matches, had many great battles with Martina, qualified for the season ending championships 6 times (a semifinalist last year) and been a top 15 fixture over that period. She ends her distingiuished career in the top 10.

Allez Sandrine and all the best in your life away from tennis!!! You will be missed but not forgotten, as one of the classy ladies of recent years

Thanks for the wonderful post, Tennisaddict.

My fondest memories of Sandrine were my visits to New York and Paris this past year. She treated me and Nicolas with such graciousness and love that I feel like I have a lifelong friend now.

*welling up with tears as I write this*

I remember being in the Du Maurier stad for a quarter final between Testud and Hingis (it was in 2000), although Testud lost another close one to Hingis, she gave an incredible performance and the croud was wild. It was great stuff. She had a lot of great performances against the top players, she will be missed.

I remember her close matches with Serena. She was one of the few players not intimidated by the Williams sisters. Does she still have a positive head-to-head against Serena.

She was also in excellent form when she beat Lindsay to take the filderstadt title a couple of years ago.

Its sad to see Sandrine retire. She was one of my favourite players, but never seemed to get the publicity she deserved. Most people still don't know who she is.

Actually in their past meetings Serena i think had love sets against Sandrine in Toronto and in Munich, but ill have to double check.

Im a big fan of Sandrine's and I will miss her, Surley Capriati must be somewhat relieved , I hope Sandrine has a happy retirement. good luck to her.

Things I wish Testud had accomplished in her career:

Achieving just ONE prized scalp over Hingis at some point!
Reaching at least ONE Grand Slam semi final, preferably at Roland Garros.
Converting on a few more final opportunities, especially at a Tier II level or higher.

Things she's accomplished in her career which I am proud of:

Reaching the Top 10 (and finishing her career AT #10)
Taking the scalps of Venus, Serena, Lindsay, Justine, Monica, Jennifer, Amelie, Arantxa, Conchita and countless other top players or former top players
Always providing such close encounters with the big babe brigade and exciting matches
Remaining a classy lady off court as she is on court

With all that said, Testud has had an AMAZING career and I'm so happy she's leaving on top. But it is a bit sad, I only became a true fan of hers this year and would've liked more time to "get to know her" so to speak.
