What is the psychology of Chris Evert Always Bringing up Match Fixing?

I get the impression that Chris Evert brings up the topic of the Sisters and match fixing to try and force Venus and Serena to play well. I mean to send a message to both Ladies that the establishment will be watching. Leave some blood on the court, prove to us this is real. Well forget it Chris, the Sisters are in the final and there absolutely is not a damn thing that you can do about it.

Beat'em down Ms Williams, beat'em down!

Exclamation My two cents worth...

Hi TSequoia01

I think she harps on it so much because there's little else for which to complain!!!

I mean, the Sisters have so improved, the announcers must "dig" really deep, to find the negative aspects to talk about.

Hey TS......01. You make an excellent point. I was wondering why she brought it up again, as if to bait the other announcers, see what they thought. It was clear to me that she believes that there is definitely some truth to the rumors. This surprised me.

Kudos to Bud Collins for shooting her hata conspiracy down. It is almost a lobbying effort from Chrissie for legislation to prevent an all William's final. Think it cannot happen? Let the Sisters show up in the finals of the Open and the outcry will be big. Amelie, Sabbatini, and others are in the news media complaining about these finals. Trust me, they will not allow Black folks to keep controlling these million dollar events. There outward excuse will be the matches are boring or noncompetitive when in reality it's really resentment of the Williamses power to decide the outcomes if they so choose. Think the powers that be will take their word for it? They will change the rules.

Lest the sisters not forget--match fixing could put them in prison. In any other sport if it is proven a game or match is fixed, the participants are penalized banned or sentenced. Just because you are in a position to fix the match doesn't make it right.

TSequoia01 - you're spot on with your observation. Not only Chris, but other announcers and before you know it, sports talk show announcers will parrot this nonsense.

It seems they go by the theory that if you throw enough mud against the wall (slander and libel), some of it will probably stick.

You would think these tennis announcers would soak up the ever increasing popularity of the WTA.

It baffles me that you hear that same comment everywhere. I agree that it's just that there's nothing else to say (apart from giving the Sisters their due).

What is the psychology of Chris Evert full stop? She just likes to express ill-thought out opinions a lot, in my view.

Neorules what would convince you that the Sisters donot fix their matches. I mean what could they say? Is there anything? Do you really want to believe anything they have to say?

Donot be baffled Bright Red there is a compaign being waged against the Sisters. Ray Charles can see this one. Three out of four slam finals is a bit much for some folks. It is about power plain and simple.

All I'm looking for is that each of them give the best effort that they can. If that happens some high level tennis should be seen. Hopefully there won't be a repeat of the tank in Key Biscayne.

Jealousy. Plain and simple, old fashion jealousy. Venus and Serena have accomplished feats that Chris Everet and her sister never even dreamed about. Now Venus and Serena are the top players and winning grand slams consistently. She's got to find some way to belittle and throw dirt on their accomplishments.

Chris and McEnroe also brought up the "she plays like a man" and "half a man" comments made by Davenport and Hingis over 3 years ago yesterday during the Mauresmo match. If the match-fixing topic is tired, the "half a man" topic belongs in a museum next to some fossils. They will talk about anything to fill air time no matter how inane.
