What an exciting tournament this is !

Wow, I'm really amazed how many serious contenders for the women's title there have been this year.
Look at the fantastic semifinals today: How in hell could you have predicted the outcome ?
And it's so obvious that Venus and Serena won't be dominating the whole tour. The other players come closer and closer to beating them with every match. You feel how much they believe in their chances when they play them. It's so great to see. It's obvious that they haven't given up hope to beat them.

Really, I have NO idea who will be winning all those tournaments leading up to the US Open. The next weeks will be so great !

blame your faves for making womens tennis predictable! it's not venus and serena's fault that their too good, the other players need to to rise to the competition.

and ain't it funney how nobody complained when steffi and monica were winning every match they played in a year and were winning grandslam finals 6-0 6-0.

and becca if you like the mens game so much more than the womens than why are wasting your time posting messages in this forum?

First of all, no one blamed Steffi and Monica because they had good matches against each other.

And true the rest of the tour is to blame. I don't even think Venus and Serena have improved much, the rest of the tour has just showed no improvement at all. I mean how long have we been waiting for Henin, Clijsters, Dokic, Mauresmo, et al. to play consistently. They can't, they have one good match and then its a choke.

"After all, tomorrow is another day..."

"blame your faves for making womens tennis predictable! it's not venus and serena's fault that their too good, the other players need to to rise to the competition."

Why would I "blame my faves"? I like to watch tennis - wether or not my faves lose doesn't make a difference in how I feel about myself I never put "blame" on anyone.

"and ain't it funney how nobody complained when steffi and monica were winning every match they played in a year and were winning grandslam finals 6-0 6-0."

Actually people were complaining. Where the hell were you? Talking out your ass about another subject?
Or were you on some message board of the past where we all were as well and we didnt complain? YOu didnt know anyone on here in 1988, or whatever so how the hell do you know what we did or didnt say?

"and becca if you like the mens game so much more than the womens than why are wasting your time posting messages in this forum? "

Why are you targetting me, and not the person who started the topic about how predictable the womens game is ?
I will post wherever I want. I will say what I want, about whoever and whatever I want, when I want.
If you dont like it, put me on ignore.
I could care less what you, or anyone else thinks of me.

Anything else you have for me?

ACTUALLY people did complain about Steffi Graf's and Monica's domination. I know for sure that people complained about Steffi "making tennis boring" after she won the French Open final 6-0 6-0, so don't try to play victim.

Vanity - some people it seems like to pretend that Steffi and Monica never got complained about, so that they have an excuse to pull the race card.

This is the first time I've seen villa, so perhaps he/she just didn't know and that wasn't his motive.

But for those who do indeed make that up to pull the race card - how pathetic. I see it everytime a thread like this comes up, and it is just as sad as it was the first time that I heard it.

yep and when monica dominated she was called a boring robot who can only slam the ball and has no tactics!
sounds familiar, doesn't it?

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

becca, I totally agree with what you said.

I'm looking forward more to next week, 3 lower tier tournaments to choose from and someone is bound to get their first title. Who will it be? That's what I find exciting.. unpredictability.

Venus and serena have only played 2 grandslams finals aginst each other, you make sound as though they played tons and they never will be able to play a good match.
And for you to say that they have not improved, that is ludacris, everything about serenas game particularly has improved..

and becca the first two paragraphs of my post were directed at the author of this thread, Not you.
and my point about you not posting was related to the fact that i've just gone into 3 other threads, where you have said something similar to "thank god for the mens game", i know you can say whatever you want and la di da di da but i just find surprising that someone who doesn't like the womens game would bother posting in the forums, thats all.

no but that was the impresion i got from your posts, and no i was not playing a race card, just that i find it surprsing that some people would compaline about the womens game being predictable becuase of venus and serena, when the likes of steffi, monica, hingis, navritilova, evert were dominating.

Talking You're right, Vanity and Rebecca...

Rebecca and Vanity,

You're absolutely right about people complaining about Steffis' and Monicas' domination!! However, the technologies today that allow for more mass communications, only makes it seem that there was little or no complaints back then.!! So, granted, it probably only seems like there wasn't much complaining. For sure, the '97 domination by Hingis, where she won 3 slams, is a completely different story. I was on-line during those times and although I wasn't aware of any message boards, I found little opposition or few who complained that they were "bored" because she won as much as she did. So, again, the argument that no one complained about Hingis, holds true.

Now, here we are with the Williamses dominating, and suddenly, it's boring again. Nevermind that it's not the "same sister" winning everything, as Hingis did, but, two different people. Now, the opposition to their dominance claim a "dislike" of their success. It's so boring. Too, predictable. But, in '97 was it also too predictable that Hingis would win?? The complaints we hear today about the Williamses carry an omnious underlying agenda that you must admit is blatantly clear. PEOPLE JUST DON'T WANT TO SEE THE WILLIAMSES SUCCEED.!! Pure and simple. So, I ask you, what are we left to conclude???
