What is Your Favourite Set You've Seen?

I'm watching the third set of Capriati - Dementieva in the 2004 USO Semifinals.

My favourite tennis is long, baseline tennis. This has to be one of the best sets I've ever seen. That 49-shot rally

What are some other good ones?

Nope, I just love it when Serena plays practically perfect tennis, and to bagel someone as consistent as Hingis, that's EXACTLY what you gotta do

Re: What is Your Favourite Set You've Seen?

Actually until the very last moments, my favorite set I ever watched was last year when after seeing this amazing spunky player win through in qualifying at Roehampton, I got to see her main draw Grand Slam debut. The three matches I saw of Yaroslava Shvedova in qualifying made a huge impression on me. In her second match she fought back from a set and 5-2 and matchpoint down to win with such coolness I was entraced.

So obviously I couldn't wait to see Yari play Lisa Raymond on court five at Wimbledon last year. And she played brilliantly, some of the most joyful, inspired tennis I have ever seen. Raymond was actually playing very well too but she was totally being outclassed. I remember the whole set, I couldn't stop smiling as Yari hit one amazing shot after another. I knew I was watching a star being born.

And then in one second while leading 5-3 and only a couple points from the winning the 1st set, it happened. Suddenly it went from being the most enjoyable set I have even seen to being the most saddest and depressing. Yari badly turned over her ankle and was in agony. Nothing could be done for her and she was taken away in tears on a wheelchair, her Wimbledon dream destroyed. My heart really broke for her.

Anyone who has seen the pictures of Yari winning in Bangalore would reconise probably the happiest girl in the world. She really does have the most amazing genuine smile on the tour. I think alot of that joy from winning in Bangalore came because she has suffered some terrible injuries along the way and fought back from them.

The way Yari plays the game you can see her love and passion for just playing tennis and to see it taken away by injuries is a horrible terrible thing I hope never to see again.
