yes, only 20 'premium' tournaments + Slams + YEC.

'?' denotes tournaments which won't get top-players, I think.

that's confusing me too. The only explanation (if it's true) is that it'll be clay court event too, like ATP Mercedes Cup.

What so difficult?
Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open, Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Beijing, Tour Championships are mandatory events. All players who get to main draws of these tournaments are obliged to play them. Moreover results at these events will be counted among 16 best results for players rankings.
Dubai, Rome, Canada, Cincinnati, Moscow are granted to have 7 Top-10 players in their draws.
B plus events are granted to have either 1 Top-6 player and 2 Top-13 players or 2 Top-6 players in their draws (Sydney, Berlin/Stuttgart, Eastbourne, New Haven are open for all top players).

Re: Possible WTA Tour 2009 calendar

So for those that are injured or are coming back who want to play tier 4's and 5's there is no way to do that? It's short but we've got to give it a try and see what happens, it looks like they do want the big players at everything but again won't that be asking them to play week in week out if every tournement is a must play considering they are thinking of making the players play or be fined.

Re: Possible WTA Tour 2009 calendar

Well, Top-10 player schedule may look like this:
1) Syndey
2) Australian Open
two weeks off
3) Dubai
one week off
4) Indian Wells
5) Miami
two weeks off
6) Charleston
two weeks off
7) Rome
8) Madrid
one week off
9) Roland Garros
two weeks off
10) Wimbledon
five weeks off
11) Canada
one week off
12) New Haven
13) US Open
two weeks off
14) Tokyo
15) Beijing
two weeks off
16) YEC

I wouldn't call it busy schedule...
