Notice how Shriver and Carillo suddenly gushing over Serena's success?

Well what a surprise, just over two months ago Pam Shriver and Mary Carillo couldn't talk about how out of shape Serena was. What a sudden shift by those two hypocritical sea hags. Shriver kept on going on and on that Serena had gained weight. And Mary Carillo the shrew that she is couldn't stop comparing the death of Yetunde Price to that of James Blake's father from cancer. The negatiivty was over the top by ESPN at the Australian Open. And now two months later they are gushing over Serena's success. I am just waiting for Shriver and Cariillo ESPN, and the rest of the American commentators to complain that Serena is dominating the game again.

I was very surprised about how positive they were throughout this tournament about Serena. Even after Serena lost the first set 6-0, Mary was saying how great of a fighter she is.

Why are we blaming the commentators for stating the obvious? This is their life -- tennis. To see someone overweight and lacking tone trying to win is almost disrespectful. It only speaks bounds to how amazing Serena is in her other areas such as athleticism, mentality, and power. I think we all knew Serena was fat. And let's face it, she hasn't lost much since Australia. I can't wait to see her in shape and holding all four grand slams. :]

Can't be true. That would make sense.

They just jump on the bandwagon like the other so called "fans" who are only there when the Williams sisters are winning.

I remember Serena saying during the AO that she felt that she was in shape but was still trying to find her movement on the tennis court so her movement probably had little to do with her being out of shape.

I think calling Serena fat insults everyone else that she is playing....I hate when people say that....just accept it....she's never gonna look like MaSha....and if she was fat and beat a whole field at the two most important events so far for the season then the rest of the tour sucks or Serena is simply amazing!!

As much as I really don't like Mary Carillo, again it pisses me off that I am here defending her.

But I guess I need to remind people again that Mary has always been critical of the sisters because of how special they really are to tennis.

In her mind, this is the Serena Williams that we should see playing tennis and not the Serena that has had some crazy losses the past few years.

@ sea hags.

I agree with you 100%!! I can't wait until Lindsay has her baby, Kim retires or Martina H re-retires so one of them can come and replace one of those sea hags.

Serena was fat (there are some horrendous pictures of her from this year and last), but I think she looks much better than she did in Australia. Her arms are more toned, her booty seems more lifted, and her legs are pretty much all muscle. And how could you say that she's not in shape? She just went stroke for stroke with one of the fastest players on tour, and she certainly wasn't gasping for breath any more than Justine was.

I meant, better in shape. She has proven she is capable of competing but for the clay, we need better shape. And yes, she does look better than Australia. Her face looks a lot better, you can see it. Just a little more weight to go to take some stress off the joints. Serena has 3 weeks off before Berlin after Charleston. [ Of course Fed Cup but against Belgium without Kim and Justine, that doesn't really count ] I hope to see great things from her, both on the court and off.

She's in better shape than she was even in Australia. I can't wait to see how she progresses from here

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
