Is there a match that you wanted your favorite to LOSE?

Has there ever been a match that you wanted your fav to lose? It could be for several reasons, like you really thought the other player deserved to win, maybe losing the match would teach them a lesson, etc?

Its not often that we go against our favs, but does it sometimes happen and why?

I LOVE Mary Pierce , but I wanted her to lose the final of Roland Garros in 2000

ok, just because Martínez is my all-time fave

that match was a heart-breaker because what Mary did that year was huge , in Paris etc etc but still it was Conchi's last and best chance to win there

Conchita MARTINEZ-Mary PIERCE-Lindsay DAVENPORT-Martina HINGIS-Serena WILLIAMS- and new legend Monica PUIG
Kata Srebotnik - Anabel Medina-Garrigues - Arantxa Parra-Santonja
Garbiñe Muguruza- Caroline Garcia- Polona Hercog- Kimiko DK - Eleni Daniilidou ...

Well, I am happy and very pleased that Serena won today but I'm a huge Justine fan too so at the 2 M.P's I thought it was ok if Serena lost.. But she ended up winning so it's good.

I would of been fine if Justine won as well though!

That's perhaps the best example right there. As much as I love Mary, I kinda was rooting for Martinez.

I thought of another one. I wanted Myskina to lose the RG 2004 Final to Lena D

Re: Is there a match that you wanted your favorite to LOSE?

Yes. While watching the Wimbledon quarterfinals of 2002, I suddenly realized, during the match, that I wanted my long-time favorite player, Monica Seles to lose. Huh?? I was shocked at myself.

But that was the day I realized I now had a NEW favorite player: Monica's opponent, young Justine Henin.

Even so, I'll always love sweet Moni.
