Could Peer become Serena's Capriati?

She seems to have the goods on Serena. Jen used to do that to serena even when serena was at her peak and Jen was struggling against every other player. So far Peer seems to take Serena oput of her element. This is regardless of the H2H ala Serena and Jen or whether we think Peer has the potential to make top ten or not.
Consider this, Serena dealt so swiftly with players who were in form at the AO like kankovich, nicole and maria but look what happened with Peer. miami has been similar.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

Too early to tell, but I would not be surprised.
There is that potential to frustrate Serena.
And as with Jennifer, Venus beat her without too much trouble

Re: Could Peer become Serena's Capriati?

I could see her being more like Serena's Sandrine Testud.... Is it just me or does anyone else think that Peer's game is like Sandrine?

Yes. Shahar is a rising star and she will win Australian and French Opens in the future.

Re: Could Peer become Serena's Capriati?

Um...no, definitely not enough weapons. Capriati was successful way b4 Serena and was already an established 3-time GS champion by the time Serena even won her first.

Peer hasn't defeated Serena yet.. you can't call her a rival. Plus, she does not have the power JCap had. If Serena is on, Shahar never has a chance. The FIGHT is definitely there, but the talent is not.

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

Re: Could Peer become Serena's Capriati?

peer choked so bad it was pathetic. you could see the doubt in her face from point 1. otherwise she da taken serena down. peer is not top 10 material.

justine wins tomorrow on serenas home turf and dominates serena the rest of the year.

I hope not LOL.
But I think she has the kind of game to bother Serena. Not so much like Capriati, but more like Testud and Sanchez-Vicario.

Serena won her first slam in 1999 at the US open.
Jennifer won her first at the Australian Open in 2001 then RG 2001, then AO 2002.

Serena won her other SEVEN slam titles after that.

However, whenever these two played except Wimby 2004, they have been fiercely competitive, even with lots of errors (and winners).

I wish Jen would come back and play again!

My mistake... i always seem to forget that slam 8 years ago. Still, JCap was a top player while Peer isn't really top 10. I see her more as one of those players that frustrates the hell out of SErena... but isn't a rival.

aww sandrine. she was so much fun to watch. there are similarities to her and peer. first of all, sandrine was a thorn to soOO many top players, but just couldnt beat them at the really big moments. there was serena, martina, and lindsay to name a few. not a bad list i might say. sandrine had an excellent serve though, especially a great kick serve. peer serves needs work, though she has sandrine's number on movement. groundies, i would say the same. neither has a killer forehand or backhand. but they are fiesty fiesty fiesty competitors, though i prefer sandrines personality.

Re: Could Peer become Serena's Capriati?

No, Peer is a good young player but eventually Serena will have her number. Serena though should thank Shahar for preparing her Justine. Prior to that match Serena was not ready IMHO.

Beat'em down Ms Williams, beat'em down!
SERENA PRINCESS OF POWER

Victoria Duval - coming to a slam near you
Françoise Abanda definitely a future #1 --- Taylor Townsend devastation on the march
Venus and Serena ferocious grannies --- Kimiko Date Krumm great granny still doing her thing.
