As a tennis fan, I love to see agressive movement , but as an artist, I also like to see graceful movement. What are some of the most graceful players in women's tennis?
Pffft to Venus, she's like an amazon. In todays game I'd have to say Hingis or Nastya (bias aside). In the past, I'd have to say Graf.
I mean, a graceful player is one who moves about the court seemingly effortlessly and is somewhat flowing with their movements. Their movements are like a work of art... not a rompa stompa display of testerone.
Martina Navrotilova. I was too young to watch her when she was playing, but I cought some videos of her lately. She's walking smoothness and grace. Everything about her game is completely natural.
I would say Tati, she has some movements that come from figure skating, for example when she prepares her turning around her forehand. I love her serve motion too. She is very elegant when she plays.
ITA! I love Serena to death, but she's never been graceful Serena's definitely an athlete, though. Shows how far athletiticism can take you. I'm glad to see a rivalry between her and Henin, though, b/c it makes for good debate and clash of styles.
Evonne Goolagong (Cawley) & Maria Bueno were in a class of their own in terms of graceful movement and shotmaking.
Hana Mandlikova was not far behind, and apparantly Suzanne Lenglen was extra-ordinary as well.
Then you have the rest ... but if you really want to see true grace, including both movement and in terms of someone showing how to be graceful and joyous on court (win or lose), go and find a video or DVD of Evonne Goolagong in action. She is perhaps the closest thing our sport has ever had to a real life angel gracing our courts.
