Re: What are the religious inclinations of the top wta players?

Update? I know Halep and many Russians like Gasparyan, Blinkova cross themselves after matches. Familiar scenes as I was compelled to go to Cath church when I was little.
I wonder if there are any known Buddhists, Scientolgists, Gnostics, Satanists or else.

@Grininel Orthodox Christians mark. Also when they pass near a church they make their cross. It's a sign of confessing their faith and be closer to god.

Re: What are the religious inclinations of the top wta players?

Why does this matter what their religion is? I thought the rules were designed for protection against religious persecution. I noticed the threads speculating about the players sexual preference and who was and wasn't gay were quickly closed or removed, especially when it related to Jola. Yet this one is allowed to thrive, while poster after poster has expressed their disdain for religion and belief that religious people are beneath them. This is why diversity is so important in moderators.

@Trizap We should marginalized the discussions which involved those people who still believe in god or allah or whatever? What does this thread has to do with religious persecution also?

Because as I've said numerous posters have expressed their disdain for religion (which is their right) and their belief that religious people were beneath them intellectually and were the causes of all the ills of this world. Now change the wording. What If a posters in a GM thread expressed their disdain for homosexuality using the same words. And did not stop there but said they beleived homosexuals were all sick deviants and beneath them intellectually and spiritually. And still did not stop there but said homosexuals were the cause for all the ills of the world, especially the AIDS plague. You see how fucked up and awfully bad that sounds. How awfully ignorant and completely evil it sounds? How hurtful it is? So, if you see this persecution of homosexuality wrong, (AND IT IS WRONG), and you won't allow it then don't allow it in this situation with respect to a players or person's religious choice, simply because you have your own hang ups with religion. Remove it or close it.

There is a whole thread for this, with over a 1000 posts and still being updated. They also discussed Jola in it too

Because atheists share something in common with the religious, whom they decry: Atheists think they know for sure, without any doubt, that there is no god. Yet it is hypocritical for atheists to deride people with religious beliefs for having faith in a god when atheists are as certain in their belief that there is not a god as religious people are that there is a god.
No one can know for sure either way: You have to be dead to know. As an agnostic, I don't believe in a god, but I can't be 100% certain. No one (living) can.
I think a lot of atheists are actually somewhere in between pure agnosticism and pure atheism (myself included), they're just so turned off by religion that they go by atheists because it sounds more anti-religious than just agnostic.
jacobruiz likes this.

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

This thread dates from 2007, long before the current moderation/admin team took over.

However, while it is grandfathered, the rules will be enforced regarding insulting any players faith or lack thereof as we move forward.

(For the record, the moderation team has and will continue to delete insulting posts directed at players'/posters' religious beliefs, and posters who fail to obey the rules will suffer the consequences.)

The same rules will apply here as apply in threads pertaining to players' relationships--if you're going to claim that Player A is a Pastafarian, you'd better have very solid proof. A photo of Player A eating spaghetti, for example, it not proof that Player A is a Pastafarian. A photo of Player with a noodle strainer on her head announcing her conversion to Pastafarianism is.

That sounds like antitheism to me.

Re agnosticism vs atheism: a person who calls him/herself an agnostic just because "you can never know for sure" might be overthinking things a tad IMO. Logically speaking, I can't be entirely sure that Homer Simpson isn't going show up on my doorstep in 5 minutes from now with a box of donuts, but I am personally comfortable believing that it's not going to happen. On a similar basis I'm comfortable calling myself an atheist.

In my view the term agnostic should be reserved for people who consider both the existence and the non-existence of a deity serious possibilities. Otherwise the term gets watered down to the point of meaninglessness
