Justine and Serena tied in 57 weeks at number #1

After Justine lost her number one position to Maria due to not playing in Australia, she stayed with 57 weeks on top, the exact same number of Serena

So, it made me wonder, who do you think will have more weeks when they both have retired?

Go Brazilian girls!

It may be easier for Henin to return to the no. 1 spot in the short run. But if Serena could really get there, she'll stay there for a while.

That's a great question, since both of them make it harder for themselves by playing a limited number of tournaments. And both are easily injured.

Maybe neither one of them will reach that number again because of those two issues, but forced to pick, I'd say Serena. I feel like Justine's overworked little body will give out before Serena's bigger frame will.

Theres no doubt in my mind Serena is the superior player but Justine is going to win this battle simply b/c shes going to play alot longer than Serena is. I could see Justine being another Chris Evert and retiring at 34.

Team Williams
Princess of Power: Serena Williams
21 time grand slam champion, Tours best fighter, Olympic Champion
Queen of Grass: Venus Williams
7 time grand slam champion, Olympic Champion,
The Tour Standard! .... still haha!

Justine for sure. I honestly would be shocked to see Serena get back to number 1 unless she wins two slams and gets to at least the semis in the other two or has really good results in non grand slam tournaments. I think Serena will win many more slams but I just dont think she is going to play enough to be a consistent number 1.

you know thats what she says but I think Justine wants to be known as the best ever and if that means staying ont he tour longer I think she would do it. I could be wrong though and she retires next year haha but I think she really wants to be known for all time.

it's definitely Justine, Serena doesn't play enough to be or stay at #1, but being #1 for a longer period doesn't justify being better.

Re: Justine and Serena tied in 57 weeks at number #1

I think if Justine wins Wimbledon, that will only make her closer to retirement. She's not going to be going for double digits in slam wins or have the most weeks in #1. The most important thing for her is what she does in the time period that she plays tennis.

Quite frankly, I thought Justine showed a lot of enjoyment in tennis in playing the YEC in Madrid last year. She was happy, as happy as Serena Williams was playing in Melbourne this year. You want to see athletes play their sport like that, happy and enjoying the battles.
