The William Sisters will be in Jamaica on Vacation next week.
Williams sisters for Jamaican visit
Sunday, January 28, 2007
The Sunday Observer understands that newly crowned Australian Open tennis champion Serena Williams and her sister Venus are planning a five-day trip to Jamaica from February 5-9.
The Americans' trip, which is being planned with the co-operation of Visions Multimedia Incorporated (VMI) and the Jamaica Tourist Board, is expected to include visits to Kingston and St Andrew, as well as other parishes.
Early last week president of Tennis Jamaica, Philip Gore, denied reports that the sisters were planning a trip to the island.
However, the Sunday Observer understands that tennis' local governing body was approached but declined to become involved in the organisation of the sisters' visit.
Serena Williams won her third Australian Open Championship yesterday after a 6-1, 6-2 demolition of top seed Maria Sharapova of Russia.
Williams has seven other Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal which she won in the doubles event playing with sister Venus in Sydney 2000.
In addition to doubles gold, Venus Williams also won the singles gold medal in Sydney and has five Grand Slam titles.
If all goes well, the Williams sisters may return to Jamaica for future visits.
