What a jump in the world ranking for Vasilisa who is another russian teenage to break the Top 50! She's up 22 spots after a troumandous run at Hobart Tier IV $170K where she finished runner up as a qualifer! In the qualies she ousted 3rd seed/n°59 Agnieska Radwanska and followed the week with convincing victories. She was only stopped by Top seed/n°13 Chakvetadze after a 2 tight sets match.

TOP 10: NO CHANGE
Na LI n°16 (+5):
Na is the first chinnese girl to reach such a high ranking! Last week she reached her 5th career SF on the WTA Tour at Sydney Tier II $600K. During that week she ousted 6th seed/n°8 Dementieva en route before losing to eventual winner 3rd seed/n°5 Clijters in a thrilling 3 sets match.
Vasilisa BARDINA n°48 (+22):
Sania MIRZA n°53 (+13) and Serena WILLIAMS n°81 (+13):
Both players were competing in Hobart. Sania made it to the SF upsetting 4th seed/n°29 Kirilenko en route before falling to Top seed/n°13 and eventual winner Chakvetadze. After a desapointing 2006 season, sania is back to confirm her huge talent.
As far as Serena is concerned, she was back to competition after a 2006 season undre injuries. For her 1rst tournement in 2007, she reached the QF falling to courageous n°56 Bammer. Serena seems to be motivated to come back for the best as usual, but she still has got to work a lot to find her fitness and stamina needed for her powerfull game.
Alicia MOLIK n°141 (+24):
Another player who is coming back after a long injury time out. Alicia is fear of tennis and victories. Shre started the year with an unexpected victory over n°6 Petrova at the Hopman Cup. Even if it wasn't an offical torunement, that victory may have given her a lot of confidence for 2007. At Hobart she reached the QF ousting 6th seed/n°32 Aliona bonarenko en route before falling to n°66 Mirza. The road to the Top 10 is still very long...
Vanessa HENKE n°191 (+3) and Alize CORNET n°192 (+3):
Both girls are up 3 places without playing (only due to ranking movements). however, the destiny should be different for that 2 girl. In one hand, Vanessa is a 26 y.o and used to be ranked between n°150 and n°200. In the other hand, Alize is one of the most promising 16 y.o talent.
As usual, I hope you'll enjoy the thread and don't hesitate to comment! see you in 2 weeks (due to Grand Slam period).
