Re: SYDNEY: Best quality match? And biggest upset?

The final had too many UE's from both players to be labelled a classic, the quality was very high at times.

The match I enjoyed the most? the tight semi-final Jelena v Nicole.

Re: SYDNEY: Best quality match? And biggest upset?

it's been a great year so far!

Week 1:
in gold coast we had the safina and peer three set battle in semis of gold coast followed by the 3 set final safina vs hingis. in addition to the first week, there was a three set fight between jankovic and zvonareva in the auckland final.

Week 2: in sydney, safina and hingis were sent packing early by pratt and jankovic respectively. then jankovic wowed everyone with her wins over top seed mauresmo before clijsters finished off the gritty serbian in a three set battle in the final. na li also reminded us why she is considered so dangerous on her way to the semis. in hobart, we saw the return of serena and a couple of dramatic three set matches she encountered. a new russian in vasilisa bardina has been noted, when she reached the final and chakvatadze continued the form which led her to strong fall season at the end of the 2006 by winning another title.

the aus open is going to be very exciting and i feel like women's tennis is improving again! i just hope it can continue throughout the year without too many injuries and weak draws

Best match: Kim v Jelena
Full of emotions. Kim won match saving match point (or Jelena losing it, making a double fault
Best quality match: Jelena v Nicole
Many winners and rallies
Biggest upset: Dinara v Nicole
Ok, she was tired. But she is top 10 player, she should win this match. She need to be more consistent

I agree - Kim's errors at times were just ... but there were some AMAZING rallies, I haven't seen Kim hit her backhand like that for a long, long time now. I loved the rallies where both ladies went toe-to-toe off that wing.

Best match of this week? Hmmm.... I didn't see Hingis against Jankovic so I can't comment on that one but the final was awesome, at times.

Women's tennis sucks.
~

Go Rafa.

Re: SYDNEY: Best quality match? And biggest upset?

Best quality match was probably Jankovic vs Vaidisova. But most exciting match was definitely the final, even though both Kim and Jelena missed some sitters at times. Probably too many breaks of serve in the final for me to call it the highest quality match of the tourny.

Biggest upset? Both Pratty's first round wins in singles and doubles.

Awesome tourney I loved watching Jankovic-Hingis

Hantuchova/Sugiyama def. (1) Black/Huber 6-7(0) 6-3 7-6(10) saving SEVEN match points, down 2-5 in the third, and down 2-6 in the third set tiebreak in three hours
