AO Q1 Tatyana Perebiynis (UKR) def Akgul Amanmuradova (UZB) 6-1 7-6

Poor Akgul!! The second set tie break was 11-9, and she needed to defend a LOT of points here, since she reached the second round last year... :'(

Congrats Tatyana though

I'm all alone with my delusions

Tati She was actually winning rather comfortably but then got nervous when serving at 6-3 5-3, so it was good she could win the tiebreaker

ETA: Yeh the scoreline was 6-3 7-6(9) not 6-1 in the first set

Too bad they had to meet in r1
I'm glad Tatiana is through but Akgul will lose many points! I hope she'll be able to "rebound" after this!

I hope so too, but she might not. I guess she has to get by with what she has got - no credit to float her through the season in hopes of picking up points and money later. This could signal the end of her career, depending on how low her ranking goes and what her new ranking will allow her to enter.

One hope is that due to some successes at the *very* end of last season, she has found someone to support her through the season, and if she is very lucky, to pay for a coach.

All my best wishes to her (Agkul).

As much as I like Tammy it's a shame she couldn't pull off the win in Shanghai after beating Yuan, Bardina, and Nakamura...all top 100 players... It's just a case of having no clue I guess.
