Just a question. Just how popular is tennis in the U.S. these days?

I mean, there haven't been great results from an American in quite some time now, no? Has interest dropped drastically aswell? Can Vania King maybe save it? Or is Serena getting her act together really essential?

I'm all alone with my delusions

the usta is trying, but tennis was never THAT popular, isn't THAT popular, and probably never will be THAT popular, especially compared to other sports.

in america, team sports and auto racing is where it's at...

Vesnina Sveta Crawford McHale Franny Zarina Sloane
Lepchenko Min Garbiñe

Well, not in my school really. But in the parks I go to, the courts are always filled with people in. Raquetball too. <3

But yeah. It's not up to par with football, basketball, and even baseball in popularity.

in america... stereotypically, those who play tennis the most seem to be asian/white at least upper middle class

at least tennis is more popular than golf... as in those who play it.... at young ages. golf seems to be more for the old businessmen fogies.

Re: Just a question. Just how popular is tennis in the U.S. these days?

Oki, thanks. I always thought tennis was pretty big over there in the Williams domination period. And well, thanks to Hénin and Clijsters, the popularity of tennsi has risen to never seen highs, before there was like no one caring, maybe some when Van Roost entered the top 10, but usually, people in the strreet wouldn't care too much. Now every second person in the street basically knows a lot about tennis... So yeah, that why I was wondering. Thanks for the replies and I can delete it now if you prefer?

You don't have to delete it.

I think it's a good topic and besides, someone here might be able to add an even better response to ours.

Re: Just a question. Just how popular is tennis in the U.S. these days?

omg dont delete the thread lol

when the williams sisters were dominating, tennis did get significantly more popular for viewing, but i dont think it really changed much as far as who played, especially who played seriously.

the williams sisters definitely did inspire a few young people to start playing seriously though, with hopes of one day, becoming like them!
