Clijsters to win Australian Open

With Justine out, Mauresmo was upset by Jankovic(Not a bad bet to make the semis or more), Venus out, Serena not on her game, and Sharapova just lost losing to Clijsters, Kim should be the favorite going into the Aussie.

The betting has Sharapova as the favorite.

Re: Clijsters to win Australian Open

to me Jankovic is the favorite. she's fit, she's mentally on point and she's eager.

An exhibition?

LOL.

Last time they played for real it was pretty one-sided the other way. And prior to that, Maria also beat her in a tight two set match in San Diego.

Clijsters is *a* favorite. One of a few. If Jankovic isn't worn out, she'll be confident as hell. Petrova has the physical game to do it. Kuznetzova only if she shakes the bronchitis 100%, which doesn't sound like it will happen. And Maria.

After that, I'd say Hingis, Mauresmo and Dementieva--but the draw would have to open up for any of them IMO.

And beyond that, no chance.

Realistically, after all is said and done, I'd expect a tight, well-played Sharapova-Clijsters final.

Sharapova favourite, followed by Clijsters and Jankovic (in that order)

Re: Clijsters to win Australian Open

I agree untill now the favourites are:
1. Kim Clijsters
2. Maria Sharapova
3. Jelana Jankovic (beating Momo and Hingis is very good, but not enough to be considered a bigger contender than Kim and Maria... however as I said in another thread, if Jelena should beat Kim in Sidney, she'll be the favourite imo)

Thank you! KIM CLIJSTERS FOR EVER MY NUMBER 1

Re: Clijsters to win Australian Open

Jankovic is not the favorite. She won a Tier IV, and a few rounds at a Tier II.
In NZ, if Jankovic had to play a full SF, and Vera Z had a w/o, no one would be picking Jankovic.

Well she is. I wouldn't even remind you that she was in the US Open SF. It's doesn't really matter what tier she previously won, what really matters is that she's in a great form now and has beaten Mauresmo recently and those, who've seen the match told it was amazing perfomance by her.

Jelena is extremely fit and mentally there right now... she might not win it, but who knows. I think she can beat everybody besides Kim & Maria. But there are players out there who can beat those two before Jelena gets to them in the draw.

Plus, one can dream!

Re: Clijsters to win Australian Open

Everyone seems to overrate their favs.
Hingis is going to win.. Serena's going to win...
It's a lot easier to win a Tier IV than a major.
You won't be seeing a tired Vera Z on the other side of the net.

works both ways doesnt it? just like how jelena can also be beaten before she gets anywhere near kim or sharapova in the draw

Absolutely, very true. I just think Jelena's got a moment going on.
Then again, she could crash out in the second or third round.

Just to make one thing clear. I don't have favs.

And if you ask me, Kim NEEDS to win, just so that she can go out in style.
