Same old mauresmo

Why does it always seem to be the same case with mauresmo before a slam.Example before winning the oz in 06 she lost early to ivanovic in sydney. In eastbourne before wimbledon she lost first round to dechy and she won both them slams!!!!!!Does anyone believe she will win this year's oz she lost in quaters of sydney to jankovic she should be pushing further in her warm-up events, but i wont take anything away from jankovic she played a great match and was the worthy winner. My favourite is Kim to steamroll through the melbourne draw.KC FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anastasia Myskina

Please return your truly missed by us all

Well, that's hardly logical.

At any rate, outside of Mauresmo, Sharapova, and Clijsters, the only player looking like a contender for the Oz title is (red-hot!) Jankovic. I would like to add Kuzzi and Petrova to this list, but their injuries/illnesses don't look good.

I'm imagining a Clijsters-Sharapova final with Kim coming out on top for her 2nd (and last) Grand Slam title.

Re: Same old mauresmo

I was wondering if she would try her best against Golovin.
Amelie is a veteran player. She doesn't want a hard week this week.

Re: Same old mauresmo

I totally agree ^. Amelie will play herself into form... and then bam! She'll probably make the semis and crumble against Sharapova or Clijsters

Re: Same old mauresmo

Call me a cynic, but does anyone think that maybe she turns up (because she has to) loses early, tries out a few shots, then has a nice rest before making a big run????

Re: Same old mauresmo

Isn't that hilarious that, all of last year, she lost early in small tournaments (especially those leading up to a slam) and people are always assuming that "she's going to have a bad year/ she is not going to do well...blah blah blah"

MARIA SHARAPOVA: "Amélie, you know it doesn't really matter at this point. I mean, I'd love to, I mean, Amélie is No. 1 in the world. She's playing great tennis. You know, I love that challenge of going out there and competing against the best in the world."
You'd love to what, Maria?

I would disagree with that. Amelie is still physically one of the best conditioned players on the tour: it showed against a much younger opponent like Golovin. Mauresmo doesn't hit any balls pre-season, she lies on the beach all day - it's her way of dealing with things. Sydney is her warm-up for AO, and she has looked particularly rusty this week.

Re: Same old mauresmo

I still think of her as a huge, probably the biggest contender to win Oz. I suspect this loss will make her work even harder. Her potantially biggest opponent, Maria still lacks variety (props for recent progress though)... Yeah, that can be no problem, all depends how fast the new courts are.

Fresh strawberries, sophisticated tennis audience... There's no better place on Earth.
