Former world number one Serena Williams says she is pleased with her form leading into the Hobart International starting tomorrow.
The winner of seven grand slams, Williams has slipped to 95th in the world rankings because of injury and a lack of tournaments.
Williams says she is looking forward to a strong performance in Hobart ahead of the start of the Australian Open on January 15.
"I'm hitting the ball solid and I'm really excited about my form and everything," she said.
"It's always good to have a tournament under your belt, especially going into a grand slam."
Williams, who won the Australian Open in 2003 and 2005, said she was disappointed to hear world number one Justine Henin-Hardenne had withdrawn from the tournament.
The Belgian world number one cited personal reasons for missing the tournament.
"I didn't know that, I pretty much just found that out, so I'm sorry to hear that," she said.
"But I'm excited to be there (at the (Australian Open) and excited to play."
