Top 40 Greats... interesting read

As I was reading an article on Martina Hingis on Wikipedia, I noticed a link to the 2005 top 40 Greats, Martina is placed at 22... would it be fair to still have her there despite her astonishing comeback? The article was written before her announced comeback and still lists Hingis as retired. Discuss.

Here's the link, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TENNIS_...the_TENNIS_Era

Re: Top 40 Greats... interesting read

i love martina and all, but she hasn't added to her legacy a whole lot in coming back (yet). until she adds some serious hardware, she's not going to climb the alltime greats list.

by the way, that list is total bullshit... monica outside the top10? please...

I think the list is pretty fair for the women, to be honest.

It's the men's list that's screwed up

Re: Top 40 Greats... interesting read

Steffi should be number one
Sampras should be in the top 5 let alone number 1
Bjorn should be higher
Seles should be top 10
Federer should be top 15 (possibly top 10, hes so dominant at the moment)
Serena shuld b outside top 20
Martina shuld b outside top 25 (as much as i like her)
Gabriela should be top 35
Lindsay and Venus should be outside top 35

Thank you for everything Mercedes, now please be nice to Socrates for me, perhaps fetch him a bird or two. We love you, always.

I consider it a little sexist to give Pete the number 1 spot...

Venus: US Open Champ (2000, 2001) Wimbledon Champ (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007)

are you joking? Sampras may not be in no.1, but for sure he belongs to top 5, only Margaret Court, Steffi Graf, Martina N and Chris Evert have more slams than him

gabriela ahead of a 5 time major champ and someone who has won 3 majors and ended the year #1 four times? gaby is lucky to be on the list at all.

this list is old, so let's not talk about where federer belongs.

why downgrade martina?

I think its fair. There isn't anyone ranked above Martina that doesn't deserve to be. Keep in mind if it were just women on the list, she'd be 8th. She hasn't done anything in her comeback yet that warrents her to be moved any higher. Maybe if she can win a couple more slams...

Its obvious the list is out of date, as there are a few players who should be ranked higher than they are (eg, Federer, Henin-Hardenne), but the order is screwed up for a few players - Rod Laver and Margaret Court should be higher, I would probably move Agassi up a few places as well
